How would you feel if a foreign entity owned significant portions of farmland near your community?

 @9LG28KV  from Tennessee  answered…2yrs2Y

Legal ownership and legal sales of ANY asset (land, clothes, cars, livestock, etc.) is a private issue. Making laws regarding what constitutes legal ownership and legal sales of any asset (e.g., firearms, children, slaves, candy, soda, drugs, etc.) should be decided through constitutional and legal means, even if it comes down to (gasp) citizens voting for or against it.

Zoning is a local issue and what the land gets USED FOR should be decided at the local/state level. However, if there are concerns with foreign interests acquiring US property, then the federal government has a right and responsibility to step in and address those concerns.

Do you believe limiting foreign ownership of farmland protects a nation's sovereignty, or does it unfairly restrict global cooperation?

I believe it’s a big restriction on global cooperation, but necessary for national security.

"It's crucial we keep our farmland in the hands of those who truly understand and care about sustainable farming and local communities, not distant corporations or foreign entities."

I think Iowa's new law on restricting foreign ownership of farmland is a step in the right direction. It's about time we took serious measures to protect our agricultural interests from foreign control, ensuring that our farmland remains in the hands of those who truly value and understand its importance to our state and country. Granting subpoena power to investigate these transactions shows we're serious about enforcing these regulations. This isn't about being unwelcoming to foreign investment; it's about safeguarding our sovereignty and ensuring our agricultural sector remains strong for future generations.

"Finally, Iowa's putting its foot down to protect our farmland from being controlled by outsiders - it's about time we looked after our own interests first."

It's about time we took a stand to protect our farmland from being controlled by foreign interests. This move by Iowa is a great step towards ensuring our agricultural sovereignty and keeping our soil in American hands.
