Representative Adam Schiff, the lead prosecutor in Donald J. Trump’s first impeachment trial, and Steve Garvey, a former Major League Baseball star, advanced on Tuesday night to the California general election for a Senate seat, according to The Associated Press.
Election night returns showed that Mr.
Schiff, a longtime Democratic congressman from the Los Angeles area, and Mr. Garvey, a Republican political novice, had secured two spots on the November ballot ahead of Representative Katie Porter, an Orange County Democrat who had been their closest rival.
Representative Barbara Lee, a Democrat and well-known Bay Area progressive, was in fourth place.
The November general election will determine who will replace Dianne Feinstein, who held the seat for more than three decades until her death in September.
During the campaign, Ms. Porter, 50, had accused Mr. Schiff, 63, and his supporters of engineering Mr. Garvey’s ascendance to set up an easier November election. Mr. Schiff, who had raised more than $30 million by last month, spent lavishly on statewide ads that compared Mr. Garvey to Mr. Trump, and that framed him as Mr.
Schiff’s chief opponent.

It's so repulsive that Adam Schiff is the likely next Senator from California. Proof positive that the best way to advance in California Democratic politics is to be a lying scumbag

If I were to run in California, I'd be very woke during the campaign and then flip a switch on them in office. That's the only way to take the state back.
The person to blame for Katie Porter's collapse is Katie Porter, not Barbara Lee.
Porter had $28M, was the leading progressive candidate, and had a metric ton of money. She did so badly that she would have easily been eliminated even if every one of Lee's votes went to her.
I liked Porter initially but came to two realizations
1) best person is usually the one GOP, especially Trump, hates
2) some congress reps, like Raskin, are senatorial. porter fire belongs in the house.
Schiff wins
@WeaselMadisonSocialist2yrs2Y
no offense but you definitely got played by Schiff if you were ever convinced the GOP hated him more than Porter and Lee
"We have solid evidence of Russia involvement in our election. But I'm not going to show you the evidence of it"
@Pr0porti0nalEland2yrs2Y
You may want to read the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report. There is clear evidence. For example, Manafort sharing internal polling data to a Russian intelligence officer.

White liberals are so predictable, man. The way they pretend to be “progressives” and the way they use black women when it’s convenient politically. The most progressive candidate was a black woman. And who did they rally behind? A centrist white man. And a Zionist, naturally.
Replacing Feinstein with Schiff will be less consequential than most believe, as it’s likely Republicans will regain the Senate majority.
@GloomyCheetahNo Labels2yrs2Y
Katie Porter blew up her political career on a bet that California Dem primary voters would vote for a woman on identitarian grounds. These bets almost never work. Did people forget that the two leading Dem presidential candidates in 2020 turned out to be "old white men"?
@FreedomFalconGreen2yrs2Y
The entire Democratic Party leadership in California, especially Pelosi and Newsom, did everything possible to ensure Adam Schiff won.
That's because Schiff far more represents the Party's value and agenda than either Katie Porter or Barbara Lee, obviously.
AIPAC also played a big role in Schiff's win, given that Schiff has long been one of Congress' most vocal and steadfast supporters of Israel, not just of that foreign country but also of having the US finance its military and wars.
