Biden said at a political event in South Carolina that he would shut down the border ’“right now” if Congress passed the proposed deal. The framework hasn’t been formally agreed to by Senate Democrats and Republicans and would face an uncertain future in the GOP-controlled House.
“A bipartisan bill would be good for America and help fix our broken immigration system and allow speedy access for those who deserve to be here, and Congress needs to get it done,” Biden said. “It’ll also give me as president, the emergency authority to shut down the border until it could get back under control. If that bill were the law today, I’d shut down the border right now and fix it quickly.”
Former President Donald Trump has been pressuring Republicans for weeks to kill the negotiations. He’s loathe to give a win to Biden on an issue that animated the Republican’s successful 2016 campaign and that he wants to use as he seeks to return to the White House. Negotiators had appeared to be closing in on a deal, but it started to fray after Trump’s admonitions to conservative lawmakers grew stronger.
In a written statement on Friday evening, Biden said the deal would allow him “a new emergency authority” to close the border. He added: “And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law.”

Here in Sweden mass immigration and it’s resulting rise in crime to the point that the country went from the safest society in the world to currently Europe’s second most violent has cost the left-of-centre socialdemokratiska its majority in the Riksdag. They lost to a coalition of conservative immigration restrictionists. And this is even after the social dems declared that their immigration policies have been not only detrimental to Swedish society but also Swedish culture. It’s real satisfying to watch them squirm. They must feel there is no political future if they don&r… Read more
Joe Biden has personally encouraged and allowed 7 million migrants who aren’t political refugees to illegally swarm across our southwest border the past three years—and is allowing an additional quarter million more to illegally enter our nation unfettered every month.
They are being releasing into our country to overwhelm our cities and public schools. They are consuming billions of dollars in state and federal funds intended to help Americans.
And Biden has the audacity to demand that any immigration deal give him the right to allow 1.8 million illegal immigrants to cross our… Read more

Joe left the border open for three years. Now he wants to make a show of closing it until Election Day, at which point he plans to re-open it.
Everyone knows conservatives believe progressive strategy is to ignore the law for as long as they can, then trade enforcement for "amnesty" for the millions they have let in. And then repeat the exact same strategy. Biden has done nothing to disabuse anyone of this notion, and indeed done much to confirm it. Republicans can only think that any deal they make now proceeds entirely from Biden's political troubles and will be abandoned… Read more
Biden can tighten the border with the stroke of his pen, just like he loosened it when he came into office. He's just looking for political cover from Congress, so as not to offend his left flank ahead of the election. As much as I'd like to see progress toward a permanent solution, the Republicans are right not to indulge Biden until Biden begins to undo some of the damage he's done on his own with his policies.
I'll correct the title of this article for you:
"Biden's unwillingness to enforce existing law at the Border threatens Biden's re-election."
And the second line, "A deal seemed on the way, but Republicans want to keep the issue alive for November." can be corrected to:
"A desperate attempt to pass a half-hearted compromise that doesn't properly address the issue but would give Democrats cover seems to have failed due to Republican resistance to playing the patsy once again."
You're welcome.

This whole "a deal seemed on the way, but Republicans want to keep the issue alive for November" is a bunch of baloney. And Trump is right yet again ... with the daily allowable numbers of immigrants in this "deal" set at 5,000 daily or 7,000 (whatever it is) we're better off not making a deal. It's such a crock.
