On June 17, 2021 President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law. The law made June 19th a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth's commemoration is on the anniversary date of the June 19, 1865, announcement of Union Army General Gordon Granger proclaiming and enforcing freedom of enslaved people in Texas, which was the last state of the Confederacy with institutional slavery. The House version of the bill was sponsored by Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, and was co-sponsored by 166 members, two of whom are Republicans. It passed 415 to 14, with all the no votes coming from Republicans. It passed the Senate via unanimous consent.

No, make the day the 13th amendment was ratified a holiday instead.
@8ZV5R8FRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes, but also make Emancipation Day a national holiday and designate one month to celebrate all cultures and ethnicities.
@8ZPVJGWRepublican3yrs3Y
No or designate other months for Whites, Asians, and Latinos
@8ZG6BC2Republican3yrs3Y

No, but it should be a holiday for states that want to celebrate it.
@8YSM2B9Republican3yrs3Y
No, the 4th of July represents freedom for all
@8YRZVX2Republican3yrs3Y
No we already celebrate human rights day.
@8YJLNBLRepublican3yrs3Y
No, this holds only the United States and not other nations accountable for slavery.
@8Y7PWDNConstitution3yrs3Y
No because it didn’t actually free slaves
@8Y5L3NQRepublican3yrs3Y
No, make the ratification of the 13th amendment a holiday instead
@8Y5KL4FRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes but get rid of black history month
@8Y4NXLLConstitution3yrs3Y
No Federal Holiday’s should exist
@8XLD3DHConstitution4yrs4Y
No the first shot was fired by a black. Then they get massacred and want a holiday
@82BNLG9Constitution4yrs4Y
No, and end heritage months. Celebration should be out of genuine appreciation, not federal disingenuity
@8XBRRXRRepublican4yrs4Y
No, we should have a Veterans month instead of pride month
@8X6SFXDRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, end heritage months and designate one month to celebrate all cultures and ethnicities instead
@8WYGRX6Constitution4yrs4Y
No, end heritage months in general. They are stupid and let those cultures and ethnicities think that they are better than everyone else.
@8WXSZ9FRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, and we should focus on the importance of America being the first to end slavery not as a political tool for reparations.
@8WVCDSXRepublican4yrs4Y
No, the name is stupid and emancipation is not what freed slaves
@8WPV55XConstitution4yrs4Y
No, and Blacks should be deported to Africa.
@8W69G37Republican4yrs4Y
No, but hold a national referendum for black people to decide if Emancipation Day should be a national holiday instead
@8W3XQ5SRepublican4yrs4Y
No we should all be treated equal. Singling out any group creates the idea that we are not
@8VB7YCRConstitution4yrs4Y
Yes, as long as all other races of slave trade hisory are declared federal holidays.
@8V6RY72Republican4yrs4Y
No, that is a Texas holiday.
@8TSRVZDConstitution4yrs4Y
Yes, as long as it doesn’t heart the economy
@nmhoskinsConstitution4yrs4Y
Yes, but it should not be politicized.
@8TNRHRNRepublican4yrs4Y
It should be declared as a "National Emancipation Day", not "National Independence Day", but otherwise I'm fine with it.
@8TKDQBDRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, it should. But currently what it represents is being taken the wrong way.
Yes, but it should not be called Juneteenth National Independence Day.
@8TDPNJHRepublican4yrs4Y
No, it is a racist holiday to celebrate black businesses and only cares about African Americans and not whites.
@8TDPB4ZConstitution4yrs4Y
Yes, but it should not be considered as important as July 4th
@6XQ5DXPRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, as long as no tax dollars are used to fund it
@8TD3GNPRepublican4yrs4Y
No, There's enough Federal Holidays as is, instead it should just be a traditional holiday.
@8TCWG9QRepublican4yrs4Y
no it’s important but should only be a texas holiday
@8TCWCTQRepublican4yrs4Y
I believe it should be recognized in the state of Texas.
@93C2QR3Republican3yrs3Y
No, it should be December 6th 1865 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified abolishing slavery in the U.S.
@92ZMLQWConstitution3yrs3Y
We are all free Americans stop all these special interest groups
@8ZVT328Constitution3yrs3Y
no use emancipation day instead, and end heritage months and designate one month to celebrate all cultures and ethnicities instead
@8ZTHCHSConstitution3yrs3Y
Yes, but we should still end heritage months because they make people think their race and sex matter more then the content of their character. Juneteenth does this to celebrate the official end of slavery but doesn't make it about race.
@8ZHXF3BRepublican3yrs3Y
It should not be a federal holiday but it should be a recognized holiday
@8TM7N9BConstitution4yrs4Y
No, abolish federal holidays
@8TKBYB3Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, but not under the pretext of critical race theory.
@8TF8HXXRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes but it should focus on the freeing of slavers and not Black Lives Matter or modern day issues
@926DQ86Republican3yrs3Y
Yes and No, add Emancipation Day and Provide reparations to Black Americans
@8SGXQ5CConstitution4yrs4Y
No but we should make either 13 Amendment Day a thing
@8SGXQ5CConstitution4yrs4Y
No but we should make 13 Amendment Day a thing
@8PWSCLTRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, but it should not have been implemented the way it was.
@77JF5QJConstitution3yrs3Y
No, and all of these un-American heritage months should be gotten rid of, as well as MLK day.
@6HQ4HQ5Republican4yrs4Y
If it is, fine. If not, fine. As long as we actually use the day to teach about our history.
