Increase funding and training for police departments and social and community based programs

 @B4JPYYD from Texas  answered…1mo1MO

Yes, but to an extent. Police departments are essential to communities but I think that it would be good to redirect a portion of their funding to social and community based programs.

 @B3VPFSP from Texas  answered…2mos2MO

Even though many police officers have been cruel we should also focus on the fact that it is more likely for a cop to protect than a civilian. But some sheriffs departments should be defunded more than others based off history.

 @B34QPWHNo Labels from Texas  answered…3mos3MO

only to the training of the police force because a lot of the police are not well trained and are racist. also for more camera for recording on them where they are not able to turn it off until they make it back to base.

 @B2SJQVX from Texas  answered…3mos3MO

not all funds should be redirected, but focus more on community building in order to build relationships with the future adults of that area

 @9VCFMM9Democrat from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

No one is recommending that. Officers have to be trained better to deescalate situations especially when mentally ill people are involved,

 @9TGTPS4 from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

Police should have revamped training, stricter background checks on new officers, and funding should be optimized.

 @9T85DX8 from Texas  answered…8mos8MO

the police should receive more funding for their training to make sure they know how to handle the situation fairly without bias

 @9SQ636PProgressive from Texas  answered…9mos9MO

Funding should be used for community outreach programs where police officers get to meet and greet the members of the community they will be patrolling

 @9RTJVVC from Texas  answered…10mos10MO

There should be proper training, deeper background checks, and frequent data runs on officers. If the funding creates a safer, more competent officer with good morals I believe we should increase funding. Not everyone should qualify or have a chance to be an officer.

 @9JKX89YDemocrat from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I think police are important to a community, so I think that is a police department is corrupt then it should be abolished. If a police department is healthy then it should get funding.

 @9JKTHPM from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, allow more community involvement, and incentivize the people rather than brotherhood within the police. They are legally obligated to serve the people, make them sign contracts to bound them to that duty.

 @9JKPKKZ from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

make the police force more capable of stopping crimes by increasing recruitment and weed out corrupt cops

 @9JDKQ7K from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, some funds should go to social and community-based programs but most of the funds should go to the police department.

 @9JD8YFH from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes social and community based programs would be nice but funding the police for people's safety is more important

 @9JD62CD from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and train them better to catch criminals and not people who stop for 2 seconds and not 3. Also, they should stop speeding because they don't have their lights on, so you know that the reason they are speeding is not to catch a criminal.

 @9J8BL42Women’s Equality from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

The police are still necessary as well as social and community based programs. Both should be funded and utilized when necessary.

 @9FG2K4F from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

don't get rid of the police, but more funding should be allocated to social programs

 @9F9N27K from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel the police are the problem, not all police take the power for granted but most abuse their power because they're wearing the badge.

 @9F7STLF from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

The police are a necessity and are government-backed mean while social and community-based programs can be voted on by the community and fundraising can take place.

 @9F7SRLSDemocrat from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F2M23H from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but money should also be redirected within the police departments for better training

 @9DZHTQB from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

increase funding with other based responders to not replace the police but help

 @968K4DP from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that some police are bad and some are good most good cops want bad cops out so i think maybe programs to help communities work with the cops to builds better relations

 @962FDVHIndependent from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95GYS23 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Additional money should be directed to community and social programs. Police budgets shouldn't be affected.

 @95F25NX from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but the local government should put more funding into community based programs.

 @95D96H3Independent from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I don't really think we should defund the police force but I understand why most people want to defund the police since there has been a rising case of police brutality and a lot of cases where there has been police shooting on innocent African Americans and other races. But I don't think we should debunk the pay on the innocent police force that actually tries to save our life's, but instead have a more serious check on who can and can't join the police force.

 @95D89W4 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

depending on the people who they have working as police officers. not irresponsible ones like what happened at Uvalde Elementary School. Disappointing

 @959JDBK from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that if we used some of the funding for social and community based programs it would be good. We do need good police though.

 @959HST9 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @958DNJ2 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Keep the police funded, but change HOW they work. They should be smaller, and more community-focused.

 @9582W4SJustice party member from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Extensive training needs to be done to ensure the officer can uphold their job at the highest standard.

 @957R9S3 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but we should redirect some of the fundig into social and community based programs.

 @957PJH4 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @954N6S2Democrat from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for local police departments should be focused on more training and preperation so violence and inequality are no longer the first choice for officers.

 @954KDWC from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but educate and train the police department on mental illness while putting aside some money for social programs (not all though)

 @94TFF9H from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

If there is excess funding, then yes, but if there is just no money to go around then it should be split equally or at least distributed approprietly

 @93DP9XZ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93CKLZ2 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, in fact, we should raise the funding and use said funding to do a better job at training, background checking, and putting more efforts into making our police departments less corrupt and influenced by things such as race and personal beliefs (unless in moral dilemmas)

 @926H756 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, and put in more training for police specifically in psychology and sociology

 @926B648 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @9269GVS from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

don't completely redirect their budget but take some of their budget and redirect it to education and social based programs

 @8ZWKNGK from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZM6D38 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think funding should be split between social and community and Police departments

 @8ZBRKH8 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, have better trained police departments overall and have professional mental health respond to non-violent calls.

 @8Z6T2P2Republican from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Slightly. Police should not have all the latest and greatest weapons when the money could be spent on preventative measures, but they should not be entirely defunded.

 @8YYYV5C from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

i think there should be a split in the social community and the departments.

 @8YYLXRP from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but separate funding should be given to social and community based programs at the same time.

 @8YYB7DY from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but the amount of training should increase past just a few weeks especially because they carry fire arms.

 @8YV6HYMGreen from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

They should provide more funding for police for proper training, most police officers lack training and respond to situations with fear.

 @8YTFVS3Republican from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

The local police is important and need to invest in, should use the tax funding right for enough for the each statement on its necessary.

 @8YT8B3G from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Police funding should focus on real issues and help emphasize on doing the right thing instead of filling a quota.

 @8YRJJMWWomen’s Equality from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

The funding for police should be decreased and that money should go to other stuff, but officers should receive more training.

 @8YPK9CSPeace and Freedom from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, although there are unqualified people in our police force that does not mean we defund them o where they can no longer protect us, the community from real threats besides bad policemen/policewoman. When there is an issue that police cant take care of because they are defunded and there are barely enough to keep the streets clean then the community will start to be ran more prevalently by gangs I believe.

 @8YPJ7BQ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Partially. A police force is still useful, but having community based responders for non-violent calls can help reduce unnecessary police violence. There should also be tighter regulations within the police force to avoid corruption

 @8YPHGKK from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YP62VJ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, police departments should be well funded but community-based programs should also be funded for things that shouldn't be police jurisdiction and are given to police anyways

 @8YP25H3 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, as taking funding would make things worse. Simply hold police accountable for all and any laws broken by their officers, but also spend time emphasizing the consequences and have thorough training.

 @8YM6B7T from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes and No, I believe that there should be social community based programs however, it should not decrease the funding of the police. If anything I believe there should be two kinds of responders. The first responders should be a unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls and armed police officers for violent calls. Both should be respectful and protective of their communities.

 @8XD9D96 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Regardless there should be reform to the police departments across the united states, there's no reason the death of a man by the hands of the police should divide the country.

 @8X8MHKV from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but keep the police and just give them a lower budget and less unjust power

 @8X28X9N from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

No, keep the police but ensure better training and move some of the funding for other community improvement projects to better the community and provide further services for the people.

 @8WSXL64 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but departments should give the police thorough background checks, mental evaluations and lie detector tests

 @8W9SNR7 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Both to: increasing funding and training for police departments in higher crime rate communities. Increased funding to social and community based programs.

 @8W5RF8FDemocrat from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8W5M4YS from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I think funding should be sent towards bettering the police program we have now and getting rid of corruption.

 @8W25V6P from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8W225SZPeace and Freedom from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VZXWJX from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VZPGLQ from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but not all funds should be moved and there should be more training for police

 @8VZP5VD from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VZN2FKRepublican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, based on the recent encounters with police they should not be funded for what they have done.

 @8VNNMNL from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only a small portion just to help out a bit instead of completely shutting off funding to local police departments.

 @8VL4J3Q from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe that defunding the police will not do anything to resolve the situation. Instead, I prefer the funding to go to extra training on how to handle certain situations better.

 @8VL47QT from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe that our police should go through a series of mental tests to see if they are mentally ill and or if they are racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc.

 @8VH9T74 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

no increase training and teach better ways to disarm threats and better handle situations

 @8VG7GJXPeace and Freedom from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but do deep background checks and don't let police get away with things. If they get fired from one station they should not be allowed to go to another station. They need to be better regulated.

 @8V8KZV9 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

This can go multiple ways. I believe that police should get more training for violent crime areas and also for basic human decency. Some police officers are very rude and some can be nasty and racist, this has lead to a very high amount of police shootings and killings in innocent black people. This is just unacceptable and disgusting that we even still have to discuss race in this world after so many years of fighting for equal rights.

 @8TQ9JJD from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8STT93L from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SK9GKB from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8S753PS from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and require stricter training and harsher harsher punishments for deviant officers. Abolish police unions.

 @8S6MM77 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Perhaps find a way to do both? Maybe decrease funding for the police and invest what was to be funded into social and community programs.

 @8RY7JSM from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8R94QYP from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QW7VL4Progressive from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should be directed towards programs that are suited for issues that police aren't trained for

 @kabuski from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Fund training and education for police, take some funding into fixing the community.

 @8QVZJDM from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QHWGY5 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

If that money is not necessary for the local police departments i think that money should go to social and community based programs

 @8PSHLF2 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Replace police with unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls. And increase funding and training for police departments. That means more school, a raise, and more background checks I.E - bias assessments, etc. I also believe more money should be put towards other community based programs.
