Police dont have to sacrifice their funding but they can promote community based programs or sometimes even sponsor them.

Yes and no. Have checks and balances for police, if they use excessive force and they didn’t to, they should have a mental evaluation and be held responsible for what they did.

 @9DBWTZNTaxpayers from Georgia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes and no, police are important and the concept is a good one, but I think the process that officers go through in order to become policemen should be more strenuous with serious character tests because that is what it comes down to. If you are a good person then being a police officer is fine, it's the stuck up ones that ruin it for everyone.

The police shouldn’t be abolished but there should be better regulations and training. There should also be a non-violent response to non-violent crimes

If the funding is way too much then yes lower it. And fund for programs to better the environment as in people and what theyre doing with their time

 @8WGXXN6Taxpayers from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I find this troubling, really. I think we should fund them both but just the police more. As much as we have issues with them, they still have helped and saved people in the past. It's all about having to get rid of the ones with sick and twisted desires. I know what your thinking... Saying that we shouldn't have to do that, well we have all types of people in this world not everyone is the same so don't treat them the same. Not all police are bad police

 @8WG89DGTaxpayers from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe that funding for the police is a little high but at the same time we are funding them to protect us now I know there is a loud minority of cops that do bad things but the majority just want to keep the people safe so I more lean towards of keeping them funded

 @8VCY78XTaxpayers from Mississippi  answered…4yrs4Y

yes, becuase more stuff to do around the community can keep the youth out of trouble

 @8SBPD8ZTaxpayers from Connecticut  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but not to the point where they can't protect communities. I do believe they're still important.

No. Not right now. The idea of defunding the police, although a trendy idea of now, should be a part of a much larger plan to combat crime. First we need to see investment in social service initiatives as well as other initiatives to see if these services show any benefit. We can intertwine police with these organizations giving them more options when dealing with criminals, especially repeat offenders, or people dealing with mental health issues. The police are there as a last line of defence of force is the only option. Defunding the police could potentially destroy morale on police forces, meaning more cops (especially the good ones) leaving the force. If good cops leave you’re only left with the bad ones, who will contribute to the negative policing we’re witnessing in the media.

No, redirect funding to proper training and take excess to give to community and social needs.

 @8G8R4Y4Taxpayers from Missouri  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, only to an extent that will benefit the community without taking away our law enforcement. We can have both If done properly

 @9C7TWCMTaxpayers from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

no the police should be better trained and should do more than just drive around and arrest people they should also help the community

 @99J38TZTaxpayers from Michigan  answered…2yrs2Y

Police funding should not be decreased, but reworked. Police should be given more training on stressful scenarios.

 @96ZR6W7Taxpayers from Arkansas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that they should keep their finding. However, they need longer training. Detailed background checks, mental health evaluations. Extensive training on how to handle high stress Situations that could lead them to act out or miss use their force or their badge

 @8G36XLGTaxpayers from New Hampshire  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but require police departments to maintain and execute more public outreach programs as part of their budget.

No, the Federal Government shouldn't fund any of it. Personally: Eliminate the Patrol, Beat, Vice, and Car 87/Wellness Check cops.

 @6LGHLWS from PR  answered…5yrs5Y

No, replace the police departments with contracted security agencies so they are subject to market forces.
