Charter schools are tax payer funded K-12 schools that are managed by private companies. In the U.S. there are approximately 2.9 million students enrolled in 6,700 charter schools. Charter schools are approved and governed by city, county or state governments. Beneficiaries of private schools include real-estate investors who typically own the buildings and land where the schools are housed. Opponents of charter schools argue that they take money away from the public education system and enrich private companies and real estate investors who own the land where the schools are built. Proponents argue that students in charter schools consistently have higher test scores than public school students and note that there are millions of students across the U.S. who are currently on waitlists for private schools.

Yes, and we should decrease the amount of public schools to lower taxes, make a smaller government, and promote growth in the free market
@9XNV482Republican7mos7MO
Yes, and we should decrease the amount of public schools for growth in the free market, lowering taxes, and limiting government
@MeRepublican7mos7MO
Quality schools are in short supply. I support any option that leads to better education. Not every charter school meets this standard, but some do.
@9SKQQD7Republican10mos10MO
I don't hate charter schools although I don't like that they take money away from public education systems.
@9S9HSV2Republican10mos10MO
I have my own bad experience with charter schools but ,I do like the idea of privatized education and more freedom with what is taught in them.
@9PFHXVWRepublican12mos12MO
I support school choice. Charter schools should have standards that are based on solid educational practices.
@9L4R9YCRepublican1yr1Y
Yes, I think we should take the concepts of charter schools (having emphasis on students' needs and interests) and put into the agenda of public schools and provide more in depth summer schools that help students move forward. I think teachers should be paid more and given help with less students,. I think education for the most part should be done with individual students in mind instead of just as a group. I think we should still have an emphasis on core classes such as english, mathematics, science, and history. However, it does not take twelve years to learn all of it. We should have the kids be proficient in it and not be allowed to move along in certain classes if they did poorly.
@9KTJSSHRepublican1yr1Y
Tax money should not go to anything but public schools. We need a national K-12 curriculum with standardized textbooks and testing for each subject in each grade. We need a much longer school year and national qualifications for teachers. Parents should serve as a board of directors for any school their children attend and have the power to hire and fire school staff.
@84ZWD6LLibertarian 2yrs2Y
Yes, and state governments should reduce red tape to allow the creation of more private and charter schools, and make it easier to receive accreditation
@84ZWD6LLibertarian 2yrs2Y
Yes, and school districts should also support the integration of P-Tech, Public Art, Vocational, Technical, and Trade Schools into charter and public schools
@97YDZPWRepublican3yrs3Y
I don't think there is a problem with charter or private schools. If people want to attend them, I don't see an issue. Sure they may be a little more money, but the outcomes for students are good.
@8FRWJ5NRepublican5yrs5Y
Yea, as on option to parents in a voucher based system
@9HLC85JLibertarian 1yr1Y
Yes, but not at the expense of funding public schools, and if they're non-profit. Charter schools are OK, however teaching an abundance of political/religious bias to impressionable students should not be allowed.
@9FB3VRJRepublican2yrs2Y
Yes, and parents should receive vouchers for private school or home school
@9F2JBH4Libertarian2yrs2Y
No. The most qualified students don't get in. Usually admission is quotas, political agendas, and personal connection.
@9DZGXPYRepublican2yrs2Y
yes, teachers should also get a raise
@9DRDCMGRepublican2yrs2Y
Sure but at the same time help public school raise wages.
@9CCM8RKLibertarian2yrs2Y
No, I support private schools that meet the basic requirements for an education, but are governed by parents.
@84ZWD6LLibertarian2yrs2Y
Yes, and create more charter schools, public arts schools, vocation and trade schools, and job training/CTE programs
@84ZWD6LLibertarian2yrs2Y
Yes, and incentivize states to create more charter schools, public arts schools, vocation and trade schools, and job training programs, and increase access for students through vouchers and/or Education Savings Accounts similar to Florida's program
@9B6CB5SRepublican2yrs2Y
They can do what they want
@97WDXMJRepublican3yrs3Y
yes, but all schooling should be optional
@84ZWD6LLibertarian3yrs3Y
No, if a school receives public funding, it should not be privatized. Direct the funding to vocational, technical, and public performing arts schools instead
@96JLJ9FRepublican3yrs3Y
yes as long as they are privately funded
@96F4LGWRepublican3yrs3Y
Government money (taxes) should not be used with and for private involvements
@969TBMKRepublican3yrs3Y
Both types of schooling have different benefits. If you go to a charter school it will be more strict and school oriented. Public school is less restrictive and allows people to get a better sense of the real world compared to the only school-focused school. I believe we should keep charter schools but prevent the companies from making a huge profit.
@967RGMYLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes, but still need to focus on funding public school education too
@95CH6QQRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes, but make charter schools and all schools in the United States work togther
@93Z87SFLibertarian3yrs3Y
Да это должны решать штаты а не конгресс
@93RFP8KLibertarian3yrs3Y
I support ONLY private schools without ANY government interference/assistance.
@93RFP8KLibertarian3yrs3Y
I support ONLY private schools with ANY government interference/assistance/
@ConnorSHLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes, but school choice voucher systems should be implemented to provide incentives to charters.
@93Q4JRSRepublican3yrs3Y
I don't really feel strongly one way or the other
@93MPHXHRepublican3yrs3Y
Don’t know anything about this issue
@93MH6XLRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes, only if charter schools can meet state testing standards and provide a quality education to obtain government funding.
@93K9QPRLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes everyone allowed choice
@93JCH7ZRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if they are non-profit using funding from public schools and our entire education system should be privatized.
@93DL7NKRepublican3yrs3Y
We should be focusing on increasing quality of educations and encouraging STEM in all schools and increase the bar and challenge to help student face the challenge
@93BFLNFLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes. Education should be funded and managed at the state and local levels.
@938MNWLLibertarian3yrs3Y
We need to correct the K-12 tax funding inequality. Currently set up to benefit high income families and neglect low income families.
@93757LVLibertarian3yrs3Y
No, but privatize the entire education system. Charter schools use taxpayer dollars so their not entirely without government intervention.
@9373L6LRepublican3yrs3Y
I don't understand this as well and need to reaserch more
@83VCCTMLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes, but use a voucher system based on income to choose between public, chartered or home schooling.
@92NLKFMLibertarian3yrs3Y
Charter schools divert money from regular public schools; they lack transparency and accountability, and do not do right by either teachers or students.
@92L8W56Libertarian3yrs3Y
Yes entire education system should be privatized. Classrooms should be monitored remotely by parents not government officials if they want to tune in at anytime to see what their kids are being taught.
@92K2FCTLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes, and our entire education system should be privatized (so long as there are vouchers).
@92BQPQQRepublican3yrs3Y
Only if they aren't used for religious reasons
@8ZRG5DFRepublican3yrs3Y
Freedom to go to it or a religious school.
@6XQ5DXPRepublican3yrs3Y
Depends, I would support charter or public schools if they're not funded by any tax dollars
@8Z5PZTLRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes as long as they have to report same info as public schools.
@8YNTY7YRepublican3yrs3Y
Yes and I support portability of funds so that parents can chose whichever education option works best for their families, to include micro-school/pod or homeschooling.
@8YKFZFDLibertarian3yrs3Y
Parents should have the choice of where to send there kids not the government
@8XYN72HRepublican3yrs3Y
I think they can offer a better education than that of public but why can't we just prioritize that goal of educated every child to the fullest, instead of making it a luxury that few can afford.
@84ZWD6LLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes, only if they are non-profit and do not accept public funding
@8WYNLXQLibertarian4yrs4Y
No, privatized education should not receive funding from the government, which would’ve otherwise gone to public schools
@8WXMM3JLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, and parents should get vouchers towards the cost
@8WXL4W3Republican4yrs4Y
yes but not all schools should be privatized.
@8WNKYHJRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes but they should have to do same report
@8WGSBQRLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, but we should do more to put education under the control of the parents
@8W49CGRRepublican4yrs4Y
Education is vary important and I believe that every student should be given the opportunity to seek the best learning experience they can get. But it should not be available to only the rich or minorities. Charter or public all students who work hard should get the chance to move forward.
@8VFPHLVLibertarian4yrs4Y
Either parents should be given an account to spend on home schooling, a non profit educational institution, a charter school, or a public school, or public school should end at 6th grade and be private after with no funds from the government. What's the point of indoctrinating people that can't even read, because that's where we're at now.
@8TDFXG8Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, and we should move to school choice where the funding goes to the student over the institution. Allowing a student and parent the ability to choose the path that best fits the need of the student will greatly increase productivity in our younger generation as well as cut redundancies and wasteful spending.
@8SYGDDRRepublican4yrs4Y
yes and make public schools meet charter schools standards or the face losing government funding for failing to meet those standards
@8SVC468Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, everyone has the right to attend whatever school they want.
@8RQQXPZRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes and private school vouchers for low and middle income families.
@8RJS6QRRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes and also offer them to be federalized under the Department of Education.
@8RDJWLGRepublican4yrs4Y
If charter schools work so well, why don’t we focus on replicating them in public schools?
@8R9QRXBRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, but abolish uniform requirements for students attending them.
@8R3ZQ35Republican4yrs4Y
I support allowing subsidized private education for those who are in poor school districts who cannot test into better school districts, also hold public schools accountable for the abismal graduation rate.
@8QNBS3GLibertarian4yrs4Y
I may support a voucher system
@8QCMYY7Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, but not at the expense of funding public schools and if the charter schools are non-profit. Education isn't something to profit off of.
@8Q96L39Libertarian4yrs4Y
I only support tax deferment for those who send their children to private schools . Let the market decide the economics and dont make parents pay twice to educate their children . I also support tax deferment for those that home school .
@8PXPNKTLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes but we must work on saving our public schools.
@8PWWKHVRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, but they should not be allowed to participate in competitions or sporting events with public schools.
@8PVK3Y2Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, but rather hold public schools to same principles (such as flexible curriculum and public funding).
@8PRVP4MLibertarian4yrs4Y
No, until Charter schools are held accountable they run the risk of becoming a profit before child institution
@8PLV2C8Libertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, but they shouldn't be tax-funded.
@8PDJJJHRepublican5yrs5Y
If charter schools are so independent then why do they need money from the government?
@8NZZVBFLibertarian5yrs5Y
not enough knowledge on this topic
@8NYHP49Republican5yrs5Y
Yes but with the requirements that its non profit and doesnt take funding away from public schools to cause the two to compete for better educational incentives
@8NSK6TGRepublican5yrs5Y
No, we should fix our current public education system but parents should have the option to send their kid to a private school
@8NHTVXRRepublican5yrs5Y
no, education should not be privatized and also we should focus on our public schools and increasing teacher wages
@8MXD8KMRepublican5yrs5Y
Charter schools are great for those who cannot afford a higher institution for example like private schools are a blessing to be able to go to if able to be affordable, although education is needed, so charter school are best to exist, the problem with charter schools is that even though it may be free, there are many problems that occur inside the building, rather than a private school as a private school is more monitored and safe.
@8M8JQ7ZRepublican5yrs5Y
If the education is better, yes
@8LKRGKVLibertarian5yrs5Y
Charter schools usually suck
@8KWY5K5Republican5yrs5Y
Yes, only if students from low-income families have equal access to them
@8KWNFGBRepublican5yrs5Y
If they are gonna be funded by the government they should follow the rules like the public schools
@8KNV8XVLibertarian5yrs5Y
Yes and I shouldn’t have to pay taxes for education if my child is in a charter school
@8K5D2M6Libertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, but they should be privately funded. States funds should be used for public schools
@8K2VXV3Republican5yrs5Y
No, our entire education system should be fully privatized
@8JNTM63Republican5yrs5Y
No. We need to support our public schools a little more and help catholic schools as well.
@8JBSWQ2Republican5yrs5Y
No, provide vouchers for students
@BobBeastaRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes, but subsidies should be available in remote areas
@8HPFC7WRepublican5yrs5Y
yes, for the people who can't afford school.
@whaler26Libertarian5yrs5Y
The department of Education should be eliminated
