The United States Electoral College is the mechanism established by the United States Constitution for the indirect election of the President of the United States and Vice President of the United States. Citizens of the United States vote in each state at a general election to choose a slate of “electors” pledged to vote for a party’s candidate. The Twelfth Amendment requires each elector to cast one vote for president and another vote for vice president. During the 2019 Democratic Presidential Primary 15 candidates, including Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg and Elisabeth Warren, called for the abolition of the electoral college.

Voting for candidate:
I don't really know about this one.
yes and have a one party communist system
@9XHVG3YPeace and Freedom7mos7MO
It should be based on actual votes and all be actually correct rather than people who can mess with it even be involved.
@9WMLP9NPeace and Freedom7mos7MO
No then one party would always choose the president and it would not be a represented election of the people.
@9WJPB3VPeace and Freedom7mos7MO
Have trustworthy voting representatives that are selected who are being accountable of vote selection that the public trust.
@9WFHBJHPeace and Freedom7mos7MO
I am sooo uneducated with anything that has to do with politics that i have no idea what his means
@9WBJBM4Peace and Freedom7mos7MO
The candidates should not be chosen to represent a Republican or a Democrat presidential nominee based on how much money they can raise. The government (taxpayers) should pay to hear what each candidate has to say Prior to election year. All candidates should have an ex amount of time on television to speak to the country. American citizens Are at the mercy of candidates, rich friends
@9VK3TPYPeace and Freedom 8mos8MO
Yes, and the votes should be counted properly and elections shall be made by the number of votes not by who is already elected.
@9VD96JTPeace and Freedom8mos8MO
One person, one vote. May suck to count up that many, but then taxes get filed just fine don't they?
@9TRH8MMPeace and Freedom8mos8MO
There are still voting disparities existing and the voting system and polls is not accurate for lower income neighborhoods and felons
@9T27463Peace and Freedom9mos9MO
No, but we should make changes to it. We should take the approximate population of a state and divide it by its number of electoral votes to find out about how many people per electoral vote. Then the state can be split between parties depending on who they vote for, but not having a complete popular vote.
Others defend the electoral college, pointing out its role in the balance of power between more and less populated states.
I would agree if I could find reasonable proof that it is a rigged system, if it isn't however, I would not.
It's hard to say, but the system needs to be made where an actual reliable person can be put in office so the people can be convinced so they don't make the wrong decision.
no because the people elected should not be the ones deciding and it should just be the people
It not really something i care about
I believe it should be more researched (the percentage of their involvement)
Not that educated on this.
Yes, since this is the only way that ensures representation of the whole country instead of just major cities. However, there are ways to make things fair by; reforming so that votes are distributed proportionally instead of the current winner-take-all system, the balance of votes by population being updated. If those changes are made then a switch to another voting system like representative democracy (popular vote) or a ranked voting system wont be needed
Not really informed on this topic
Yes, but also reform so that we use a fairer voting system (e.g. STAR voting)
Should stay as is until we can come up with a better system.
Yes, switch to a representative democracy, but put a safety net in place in case of voter ignorance/harmful policies
Yes everyones vote should count
kinda but depends on who is running and the points they are making about why they should be president.
Yes, and the Senate should be abolished along with switching to a ranked-choice voting system.
college is a SCAM... still might go though
No more political parties
Make the voting system more accurate specially Electoral votes
Don't really care if it is or isn't so I don't really know
I still wanna know their votes but I don't want them to have priority over our votes.
I think the balance of representatives per state should be updated but that the voters should many vote. (voting should matter more or be as equal as the electoral college).
No, but it needs to be reformed so that it represents the current population
I dont really know what this is
I do not understand enough about the electoral college to decide.
i don't really understand what you is saying.
No i dont think so but it should be an in person voting system
I don't really know and/or care much about this.
not well educated to make up my mind
Abolish electoral college and have majority rule in elections.
No and yes. Some people really need to do college virtually. I feel that it should be offered for them as long as they are trying to pass their classes.
it should be agree on or the most votes
I like the way it is right now.
It doesn't affect me; I don't mind.
yes, switch to a not rigged system where you can't cheat
Complete overhaul of the voting system adding ranked choice voting.
we need to redo out government entirely
Not abolished, but I think they should have less power.
yes, whoever gets the most votes overall should win .
i think we should draw sticks
No. Proof of citizenship, and ID must be provided. No loop holes, and no illegal immigrants, no felon voters, no dead voters, re-count and hold facilities accountable for secure voting practices.
If they want it would matter either way
We should do the ranking system. Each section of the state gets to vote and majority wins for that state. So if North Carolina had 4 votes for blue and 3 votes for red, North Carolina would have one blue point towards the election.
I honestly don't really know what the electoral college is.
I have mixed feelings about it because like it can change the whole course of an election despite what all the people think.
This is a very difficult question. I think when the electoral college works it hurts one party. For example, if the Maricopa County of Arizona votes for the Republican candidate, however the elector that corresponds to that county wants to vote for the Democrat, they can and vice versa; this does hurt one party and doesn't make the people's vote matter. When it doesn't do anything/work, it doesn't really have an effect on the election. If all of the electors vote accordingly to their states, then it does not sway the way of the election. I do think more people might vote if we abolished it, but it is in place to try to protect us from a dictator. all in all, I am undecided.
eh, it has issues but it's there for a reason
I feel like the electoral vote could be very biased as well and this would only create a higher division. But also I don't feel confident to say we should switch to popular vote because like myself, some cannot vote and that would not include them or many points of views.
I've heard about it but i don't remember what this is means
No, but find a way to make sure people don't get fake votes or anything or no one is paying for votes or anything like that
It kind of depends everybody feels different.
I dont now believe so, no. I’m not completely sure though.
There should be something to regulate the altering of influence, not voting
Yes, but reform so that votes are distributed proportionally instead of the current winner take all system.
Yes, and switch to a runoff voting system
don’t really have a opinion
No, but adjust the number of electoral votes allotted so that each state is truly equally represented
People are too ignorant and selfish to vote for everyone, the just want what they want
they should remove it and replace with a back ground check and a basic quiz to ensure people know what they are voting for and people who get above a C on the quiz get an electoral vote
no but they need to make sure there is no fraud
i dont really have a opinoin
The electoral college should be added in as a high percentage to the popular vote.
I don't really care about the electoal college
I don;t know what that is
yes and have decent people running it
I think that every vote should actually count and it should not be bias
Electoral and popular vote should be seen as a equal amount of votes for example 1 electoral vote is x amount of popular votes and vise versa.
I don't really understand the purpose of electoral colleges
I don't think I have enough information about this topic to answer this question adequately.
I am too uneducated to have an official opinion.
I am uneducated in this area, thus cannot answer
I feel like we could come up with something a bit more efficient
Keep college elections going.
I feel like theres no point in voting because it comes down to the electoral college in the end
no but popular vote shouldn't decide all the winning representatives it should be decided by the different county so the representative works for the people that voted for
No, but each state should not be the winner take all.
