In 2015, the U.S. Air Force announced that it had selected Boeing to build the next generation of Air Force One aircraft. Two new aircraft will be built and will enter service in 2024. The defense department estimates that the two new planes will cost U.S. taxpayers an estimated $4 billion. In December 2016, President-elect Donald Trump announced that costs for the project were out of control and he would cancel the plane order once he took office. Proponents of the new planes argue that the current planes used for Air Force One will be fifty years old in 2021 and spare parts for the old planes are becoming hard to find.

Yes, and give it high tech experimental defense weaponry in the event of an East Coast invasion making Washington DC unsafe for the president.
@9DCTFZ8Libertarian2yrs2Y
No, the president should have to ride the cheapest military transport flight available at a given time.
@9D4X9D4Libertarian2yrs2Y
If it is deemed necesarry to be safe for travel around the world
@9J65GLB1yr1Y
Yes, the current aircraft is over 30 years old and there are numerous technological advancements and capabilities that Air Force One ought to be equipped with.
@9HLC85JLibertarian 1yr1Y
Yes, however the upgrade costs should be deducted from the Military Budget NOT by any public, or private civic funding.
@9FCF7X9Libertarian2yrs2Y
No, not until current deficit is reduced
@9BN94C32yrs2Y
No, not until the maintenance of the current fleet would cost more than upgrading it to a new one
@93XL57RLibertarian3yrs3Y
No, the President of the United States of America is a public servant and should travel as such. That is why, although Norway is a Monarchy, the leader of Norway is referred to as "Norway's King - and not The King of Norway" because he acknowledges that he is a servant to his people.
@93HVHT83yrs3Y
Only if there is good reason, such as significantly better protection and military equipment available, or the old one is falling apart. Otherwise No
@934SCV93yrs3Y
If it's deemed necessary, but not just 'beause'
@8ZWPCWLLibertarian3yrs3Y
Neutral Stance/No Opinon
@8Y34X8JLibertarian3yrs3Y
No, convert a cargo plane into a flying office.
@8XLQS2QLibertarian3yrs3Y
yes, if it needs it. No if it doesn't.
@8WY8N57Libertarian4yrs4Y
Yes but not until the cost is reduced
@8W9K99K4yrs4Y
The whole government should just dissolve.
@8W5PTR2Libertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, but only if the government can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the upgrade is necessary for protecting national security.
@8VGHZVWLibertarian4yrs4Y
I would need more research for an adequate stance.
@8TLDMVPLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, this will reduce CO2 emissions and is worth the cost
@8TFHFMB4yrs4Y
Only for defensive purposes
@8T7L25GLibertarian4yrs4Y
Current fleet is aging but $4B is way too much
@8SKXY2MLibertarian4yrs4Y
Only to keep the aircraft air worthy or to increase security technology.
@8S4Y4CMLibertarian4yrs4Y
Upgrade it for the sake of defending our homeland, not to use it for all the pointless wars America are in.
@8S3SBBHLibertarian4yrs4Y
No the state department should upgrade Air Force one as it is used for state missions and not military ones
@8RZMPNDLibertarian4yrs4Y
No, not until we reduce our debt.
@8QLX6KFLibertarian4yrs4Y
@8QBGD3HLibertarian4yrs4Y
It should be relevant to the current threats.
@8Q6LVTMRepublican4yrs4Y
Periodically yes, President should have the best available
@8PYMKHYLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes. But take the money from NASA space travels.
@8PT3QL94yrs4Y
No, it's a waste of tax money.
@8PFB7K4Libertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, but only if important capabilities such as mid air refueling are maintained.
@8PD5F8J5yrs5Y
They government should shop around to find a better deal
@8NBRLP9Libertarian5yrs5Y
Not until our deficit has been better handled
@8KZHVN3Libertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, so long as the funding comes from the US military's pre approved budget.
@8KPBC8WLibertarian5yrs5Y
That’s not a decision the people should be making
@8K32Z4N5yrs5Y
Yes, but the cost should not be an added extra cost to the already extensive military budget
@8JH57C8Libertarian5yrs5Y
The equipment should be assessed and upgraded if it does not meet the safety and security needs for protecting the President.
@83VCCTMLibertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, if it needs it. Try to lower cost as well.
@8H7G69JLibertarian5yrs5Y
Yes, but upgrades are not to exceed a budget which must be approved by Congress.
@8F5XPKJLibertarian5yrs5Y
Yes. It should be continually upgraded.
@8D4B3X6Libertarian5yrs5Y
No, but should make a plan to upgrade in the future when the current fleet will not be sufficient
@8CGDPSLLibertarian5yrs5Y
No, not until the national deficit is $0
@9D2NW22Libertarian2yrs2Y
Only if actually necessary
@98PQS3YLibertarian2yrs2Y
Yes, when required by mission needs
@97Y38LMLibertarian2yrs2Y
Yes, but only if there is an actual need for upgrades.
@97VMZ243yrs3Y
make the president pay for it
@974XPM7Libertarian3yrs3Y
The planes should be kept at the highest level of protection and performance based on the best current technology.
@9726ZRZLibertarian3yrs3Y
Sure, Costs should come out of military defense and should be budgeted accordingly.
@96VHX2MLibertarian3yrs3Y
Not unless absolutely essential.
@8KM9BXQ5yrs5Y
no. First we should look at our countries current economic stance as a whole. If $4B could be better put to use on paying back USA debt(s) towards other countries I strong advise we do that first.

@8G592W7Libertarian5yrs5Y
No, not until the aircraft aren't able to be maintained due to part scarcity
@8JMKJPMLibertarian5yrs5Y
No, take it away and give him a helicopter.
@8GW4VVJLibertarian5yrs5Y
If it is necessary, then yes, but military should be privatized.
@8G2X6W4Libertarian5yrs5Y
That's more of a tactical question than a political one. So long as the Air Force One budget is not ridiculously crazy, I have no stance either way.
@8FQMR55Libertarian5yrs5Y
Why do we care? Ask a mechanic
@8F6C7CDLibertarian5yrs5Y
Don’t know enough to answer this
@7GQMXLTLibertarian3yrs3Y
Military planners, tacticians, and commanders are the only ones in a position to answer this question intelligently. They possess the information regarding what tech is needed to future-proof the machines as well the intel necessary to understand what threats need to be defended against. That being said, the military industrial complex often ensures that project costs balloon exorbitantly. The entire process for military hardware acquisitions, storage, and logistics needs to be reviewed and reformed to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse.
