Should it be illegal to burn the American flag?
In 2006, the U.S. Senate rejected a Constitutional Amendment which would have allowed Congress to pass legislation prohibiting the burning or desecration of the U.S. flag. The Flag Protection Act of 2005 was introduced by Senators Bob Bennett (R-Utah), Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Mark Pryor (D-ARK) and Thomas Carper (D-Del). The Act proposed a punishment of up to one year in jail and a fine of no more than $100,000.

I think there could be a fine for burning any country’s flag as it is hate speech but I think the punishment is very very excessive.

You should be allowed to burn the American flag because burning the flag means that it is no longer gonna be used
@9DPSLYD2yrs2Y
No, people can burn their own property if they want
@8YJBFXV3yrs3Y
No, I think it’s awful that anyone would do that but it has allows us to see who the real patriots are and who the cowardly communists are.

No, I would just ignore the people who do that and not give them the attention they crave. I love this country and nothing will ever stop that. Most people who hate this country are just childish people who refuse to hold accountability for their actions.

No it’a a representation of systemic racism and capitalist oppression
@8X7Y8X74yrs4Y
No, Although I think it’s terrible to do such a thing the one good thing that has come out of that is we now know who the proud patriots and who the whiney commie babies are
@8TMG8PZ4yrs4Y
No, and preventing someone from burning a American flag should result in imprisonment.
@8PDF79GRepublican5yrs5Y
No, because it’s your right to do what you want, but it’s a disrespect to our country.
@jtoland285yrs5Y
No, I personally would not do it and I would find other ways to peaceful protest, but they should have the right to do so and should be punished only if it is clear it was done as an act representing hate, hostility and xenophobia to the country or any other nation. It should only be illegal when it infringes on other people's rights. For example, if someone trespasses on somebody else's property to burn the property owner's flag.
@99L6GXZProgressive2yrs2Y
No, unless it's someone else's flag.
@9494ZHRRepublican3yrs3Y
No, but I don’t appreciate people who would do it
@8WCTX8FIndependent4yrs4Y
Although I love the American flag the one good thing that came out of the American anthem protests is we now know who the Patriots are and who the Winey babies are.
@8YN9CQDIndependent3yrs3Y
No, I think it’s downright despicable that anyone would do that but at least now we know who the real patriots are and who the whiney commie brats are.
@8X7DS5Q4yrs4Y
No, but it would be seen as disrespectful if done wrong.
