In some progressive universities, professors provide “trigger warnings” to students before discussing sensitive topics, emotionally charged issues, or events that may trigger post-traumatic stress. “Safe spaces” are places where students can gather to avoid a speaker or event that offends them.

Yes. Trigger warnings show sensitivity to students and allow them to make their own choices to protect themselves if needed without the instructor compromising the content of information.

I agree with college being a place to challenge students thoughts and opinions, but I also know there may be students that have a legitimate reason for needing to sit something out. It's about balance.
@9WZFY3C7mos7MO
they should add them, as every place should be somewhere safe for students in post secondary education.

Provide trigger warnings and safe spaces, but encourage students to challenge their thoughts and opinions.

Yes, but there needs to be a place for other students to have their own sense of comfort in terms of free expression as well.

I don't think they should be required to be provided, however, I do believe this should be something that is encouraged and in collaboration with their mental health counseling center.

Safe spaces should be provided in the sense that universities should strive for a campus free from hate and violence, as well as providing spaces in the university that are dedicated to promoting safe and healthy outlets for their students to express changes they want to see in their university.

Yes but this should be covered under accomodations for PTSD not simply for someone's personal sensitivities
@9WBTHDB8mos8MO
Yes, trigger warnings in classrooms but safe spaces should not be the standard across all classes. Different classes require different levels of comfortability when discussing the reality of topics.
@7CW8MXN3yrs3Y
Have individual universities make that choice
@7CW8MXN4yrs4Y
Have individual colleges make that choice
@7CW8MXN4yrs4Y
It should be the individual college's choice
Yes, as long as they don't infringe on the students rights to free expression
@passerby929mos9MO
Universities should be allowed but not required to
Students may set them up voluntarily, but they should not be enforced
@2LDZV6QIndependent3yrs3Y
They should not be required to, but these are very easy policies to implement, and can make a big difference to some people
@Nickblack21Independent5yrs5Y
Yes, as long as they're not state funded, an organization should be able to do what they see fit to support their students
@8FPLGKDIndependent5yrs5Y
No, but students should be allowed to forge their own safe spaces and be accommodated while in a public university.
