In 2021 the U.S. Justice Department announced that federal agents would be required to wear body cameras when executing arrest warrants or searching buildings. A 2022 Bureau of Justice Statistics report found that 80% of local police departments in the US used body cameras. The study found that departments that used body cameras showed improvement in officer safety, increased evidence quality and reduced civilian complaints.

They should always be on. Recording. Never ever turned off or muted. End of story. Body cameras should only be able to be turned on and off one time a day and always recording video and sound 24-7
@9FQNDHRConstitution2yrs2Y
Local and state officers should be required to wear body cameras, as well as dash cameras on their duty vehicles. Federal agents conducting raids and search warrants should also be required to wear body cameras
@9D8V52W2yrs2Y
Yes, but just abolish the police.
@CurvyletterConstitution 11mos11MO
Yes, to promote transparency and accountability in interactions with the public and to support fairness and the presumption of innocence, along with ensuring privacy and responsible use of footage
@9NXFDC6Constitution 11mos11MO
It is inappropriate for the federal government to decide how local police operate, but I have no problems with States or communities requiring them.
@99G3SFP2yrs2Y
Yes, and they should be on 24/7 with no ability for the officer to disable it.
@9642PXF3yrs3Y
If it helps to keep them accountable, I can’t say I’d be against police officers wearing body cameras.
@9582YFKConstitution3yrs3Y
Yes, this will protect the safety and rights of police officers and citizens and all footage should be made free and accessible to anyone that asks, as it it is public record.
@92L4JBLConstitution3yrs3Y
Yes it should be required all police officers wear body cams. Also must be on all times turn it off is automatic 10 years in prison without early release
@8WTKD6J4yrs4Y
The Sheriff should do as his constituents ask of him.
@8QK9WT94yrs4Y
Yes, but only for departments that can afford to do so
@8PV9FJ2Constitution4yrs4Y
Yes, if the Police Force can afford it along with all other necessary protective equipment.
@8PMWZZ44yrs4Y
Yes, but police officers should not be required to turn the cameras on
@8PBKKF74yrs4Y
It should be decided at the local level, Not federally.
@8NSFHDC5yrs5Y
Yes, but the price of the cameras should be budgeted. Police should be allowed to de-clip the camera if they are entering a bathroom or similar room that requires a certain degree of privacy.
@8NRBWHG5yrs5Y
They already are required
@8M8GP7Y5yrs5Y
Yes, and make it so the officers can not shut them off at anytime
@8M84W4C5yrs5Y
@8LJ9V3XConstitution5yrs5Y
No. By wearing a body cam officers are compelled to enforce laws that may be antiquated thereby removing all officer digression.
@8KZ5GTJ5yrs5Y
Yes, provided that departments which cannot afford implementation be subsidized so that they are not forced to reduce the number of officers or amount of and quality of equipment they can purchase in order to accommodate the mandate.
@9C2Z3CWConstitution2yrs2Y
we don't need a police force,under the constitution the people have the ability and right to bare arms and police ourselves
@984BM5T2yrs2Y
They already wear body cameras. This question is biased.
@97NPKFN3yrs3Y
Make them wear the CGI suits while they're at it, I wanna see Thano's with a gun shooting some criminals.
@8Y4KM75Constitution3yrs3Y
Yes, The camera MUST be on at all times, officers cannot have the ability to turn it off and an unmodified copy provided to all parties involved in a given situation.
@8SSR2TPConstitution4yrs4Y
I believe they should all have them, but not have to turn them on every time. Sometimes the police will be lenient and let you go on a speeding here or there and that would stop if body cameras were on all the time.
@kgtiberiusTranshumanist5yrs5Y
Yes, police officers and all publicly elected (or appointed) officials should wear body cameras while they are working.
@8KKCXZ4Constitution5yrs5Y
States rights is where this belongs
@mathomas156Libertarian3yrs3Y
No, it should be an officer's decision to wear one.
@8BH3JGVRepublican5yrs5Y
Not at the federal level. It should be up to the states or counties to decide
@6R6HBQ3Constitution3yrs3Y
Yes, but not at the federal level
@8NXQP7L5yrs5Y
It helps to protect the officer, so yes.
@986M2M92yrs2Y
yes, but the footage should not be made public unless there is an extreme situation
