Yes, also have alternatives besides military. Have other community services like environmental cleanup or other social work

 @B2Q9CDP from Oregon  answered…3mos3MO

No because not everyone is capable of doing service like if they are disabled or sick and a lot of 18 year olds aren’t mentally ready for that and even if they were they probably aren’t physically ready for that even if it was 20 not all 20 year olds are mentally ready and nowadays it’s unnecessary for military service if they aren’t mentally ready and some 20 year olds are disabled or sick.

 @9XQXHWB from Oregon  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, one year, for either military service, humanitarian projects, or local community service projects.

 @9V7FGDK  from Oregon  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, national service should be for a minimum of 2 yrs and in addition to military service, the option should exist to allow young adults to serve in other national, federal, state, or county service oriented groups.

The U.S government doesn't need to be sticking it hands in countries it doesn't belong. What we should do is fortify are borders like Israel and become impossible to invade.

 @9FWJMFY from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

If you want to fight for your country, go ahead. Those that don't however, shouldn't be a **** to those that did serve their country for their right to freedom.

 @9FPQ9YL from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe high school students leaving /graduating from high school should perform some sort of service but not necessarily the military for 2 years and then have free college

All youth should be required to perform a certain amount of public service of some kind not necessarily military. Why dilute are military with people who don’t choose to be there.

 @9BYB8ZV from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

They shouldn't be required, It should be there on choice not forced on them.

 @93N8N49 from Oregon  answered…3yrs3Y

I think all Americans should serve their fellow citizens but not only in the military. Peace Corps and Americorps and other such programs should be the alternative to military service.

 @8ZCRK9D from Oregon  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes but those who are in the olympics or provide positive global growth should not be required service

 @8YCRJN3 from Oregon  answered…3yrs3Y

No, that's hella scary. I shouldn't be forced to risk my life if I don't want to.

Yes, But with an option to refuse millitary service, and serve in public services instead

 @8WTTG3P from Oregon  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be required but the people should get to pick what part of the military they would like to be a part of for their required year of service.

 @8R29LB3 from Oregon  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QXY564 from Oregon  answered…4yrs4Y

No. Not while our wars are fought to support the oligarchy and while military morality is in question.

 @8NY2VTN from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

Everyone should have to go through boot camp and skill development, after that decide for a career elsewhere or a commitment to the service (only getting vet benefits if serving after training)

 @8KQX3K3 from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

No, a year of service should be mandatory but not strictly military service. Habitat for Humanity, the Peace Corps, and other non-military alternatives should be available.

 @8KFRMWZ from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

YEs but also allow civil service in leiu off.. With tth trade off of having a 2 yr degree at the end of service in the field you work in.e

 @8JKMQ4F from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but every 18 year old citizen should be required to provide at least one year of any kind of government service (military, social services, education, public health, etc) that aims to benefit and serve the community/country in some way.

 @8G55VWP from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

1 or 2 years of service in some capacity, whether it is volunteering, church service or military. It should be for the temporal benefit of people or our country and emotional growth for the person serving.

 @8DQK8B6 from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but only if there is an alternative to do volunteer work (i.e. AmeriCorps or Peace Corps)

 @9CZLNST from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe that everyone should have a choice, but I don't think it's an obligation. Serving our country is one of the greatest talents to grow into.

 @9BYPX4S from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

No, there are people who can still function in society, but only with a lot of help, so those people should not have to

 @99QNJG3Green from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

 @98M5BQL from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

They should be required to complete some sort of service time. Military isn’t for everyone.

 @98L3ZGN from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

There should be other opportunities for government work for 1 year like firefighting, paramedic-work, transportation, etc.

 @97B5ZVT from Oregon  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only for those who are starting to build a criminal record - should be 2 years

 @8JX9LC6 from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but some type of service to government, peace corps, and/or military service that benefits society at large.

 @8JR5X7T from Oregon  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but only for those who do not pursue further education or employment. There should also be less focus placed on military training and more focused on education and skill development.
