Should the US increase or decrease the amount of temporary work visas given to high-skilled immigrant workers?
Skilled temporary work visas are usually given to foreign scientists, engineers, programmers, architects, executives, and other positions or fields where demand outpaces supply. Most businesses argue that hiring skilled foreign workers allows them to competitively fill positions which are in high demand. Opponents argue that skilled immigrants decrease middle class wages and job tenure.

Increase for the economy’s sake, but penalize companies that abuse this program to reduce wages and provide more programs to prepare our own citizens to compete for these jobs.
@TheHillbillyLordRepublican4mos4MO
The whole point of letting illegals stay and work, is because they can work for lower wages, since they don't get fair pay rights. Citizens would not want to do many of the jobs that the illegals do, for the lower pay the illegals are doing it for.
Increase for the economy’s sake but also institute more programs to prepare our own citizens for these jobs and fine any companies that exploit such programs to decrease wages or working standards.
Neither. Maintain current levels for the economy’s sake, but penalize companies that abuse this program to reduce wages or working conditions and provide more incentives to prepare our own citizens to compete for these jobs
Keep the current amount, but penalize companies that abuse this program to reduce wages and working conditions and provide more incentives to prepare our own citizens to compete for these jobs
Remove the cap altogether; anyone who is capable of legally working in the U.S should be allowed to do so.
Providing such permissions do not compromise National Security, that question is best answered by the industries most affected.
Keep providing work visas for the economy’s sake, but penalize companies that abuse this program to reduce wages or working conditions and provide more incentives to help prepare our own citizens to compete for these jobs
Maintain the amount for the economy’s sake but also institute more programs to prepare our own citizens for these jobs, require that companies reserve a specific number of positions for native citizens, and penalize any companies that exploit such programs to decrease wages or working standards.
Current amount is fine, but the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
Increase, and the pay rate must be the same as it would be for anyone else (and only whichever is higher can they offer).
the decision involves balancing the need for specialized skills and talent from abroad with concerns about protecting domestic job markets and ensuring opportunities for native workers.
Increase, businesses need to expediently hire high skilled workers to fill job positions where demand outpaces supply
Increase for the economy’s sake, but also penalize companies who abuse this program to reduce wages and provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
Increase for the economy’s sake, but also provide more incentives to help our own citizens compete for these jobs.
High skilled should not be a criteria
I think if they are very good at what they do we should take any of them and their families.
Increase, hiring skilled foreign workers allows businesses to fill positions where demand outpaces supply
Increase for the economy’s sake, but penalize companies taking advantage of this program to decrease wages and the government should provide more assistance to train native citizens for these jobs.
Increase, our economy depends on hiring the highest skilled workers for positions where demand outpaces supply
Increase, but require those with work visas to be paid the same wages as a citizen
Increase, but also provide incentives to prepare our citizens for those jobs.
Don’t know enough to have a solid decision
Increase, but only after we adequately equip our citizens with the necessary resources for these jobs
If the person is skilled then give them a visa, simple as that. As long as they clear back ground check then I am fine with more immigrants getting job opportunities.
I am satisfied, but punish companies who take advantage of the people to provide a less than living wage.
Increases but also give them a fair wage
Decrease, it leads to inhumane treatment of the workers who are brought over.
I think it should be increased only if they are going to also pay them more money
@8VN2J684yrs4Y
Yes, and encourage other countries to do the same.
First prepare our citizens for the jobs, if we are in need of more workforce expedite the temporary visas needed to cover the positions.
Increase, but improve programs for our citizens
Do both. Prepare & educate our citizens for these jobs and bring in the best from around the world. Win/win.
I am satisfied with the current amount, but our government should provide incentives to prepare our own citizens for these jobs.
Depends on the needs of the country and position in question
Increase, but I'd rather just grant them citizenship
Increase, but I would rather grant them citizenship if that's what they want
If it is a high-skilled job (scientist, etc.), US citizens should be more incentivized to take those jobs. If it as low-skilled job (farming, etc.), I believe it should be increased.
Increase, and also expand requirements for work visas to other immigrants looking for work.
Increase in visas with a federal $15 minimum per hour nationally
Yes, but companies should pay them equally.
Increase, with significantly stricter sanctions to drastically decrease or eliminate the ability of companies to take advantage of immigrant workers.
Immigrants should be able to work as many hours as any white, Black, Purple, or Pink human being.
Increase but we should also streamline our overall immigration system.
@hwestbrook00Democrat5yrs5Y
Increase, but keep companies in check to make sure they are not taking advantage of the system
I'm unsure of my stance.
Increase, along with a truncated and productive path to citizenship.
Probably increase, make citizenships easier.
There should be no visa quotas
I am not knowledgeable enough to answer this question
Increase, but the government should be providing more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
Decrease, as businesses are taking advantage of this, but increase other opportunities for temporary citizenship
I am satisfied with the current amount, but increase incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
the Us shouldn't increase the amount of temporary work visas given too high-skilled immigrant workers, however it should be available for those who want it, not forced upon them.
The amount of temporary work visas should vary based on projected demand/need for skilled labor with more federal and state investment in college and vocational training for US citizens. There is currently a labor shortage due to retiring baby boomers who worked beyond retirement due to the Great Recession, attrition due to deaths and poor health from COVID and other health conditions, and reduction in college enrollments across the country. There is a high short-term need for unskilled and skilled labor that increases and decreases over time that can be met with temporary work visas, so long as we as a country work to meet these shortages by investing in national development of workers.
Based off of demand for workers.
Increase the amount but the companies must match that hire with training for an American
Decrease, if the 5th answer is true.
Neither increase or decrease it, but penalize companies taking advantage of this program to decrease wages.
Humans cannot be illegal. This is stolen land. Treat everyone the same
Decrease and place more funding into educational programs to increase domestic high skilled workers.
More immigrants should have work visas (increase in all work visas), not just high-skilled immigrants.
increase depending on workforce needs
Decrease, companies are currently taking advantage of this program to decrease wages, and we should create our avenues for citizenship
I am satisfied with the current amount, but make it easier for immigrants to obtain these temporary work visas
Decrease, we should prioritize offering these jobs to qualified domestic workers and utilize skilled immigrant workers only when demand exceeds our available supply
Decrease, we should prioritize offering these jobs to qualified domestic workers and utilize skilled immigrant workers only when demand exceeds our available supply.
Increase, and the government should also provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
I am satisfied with the current amount, but sponsor and increase skilled corporate training programs so domestic workers may successfully compete for these positions
Increase at this current point in time, but the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
