In 1961, the South Carolina State Government passed a law mandating that the confederate flag be flown on the ground of its state capitol building. The law was passed to commemorate the centennial of the Civil War assault on Fort Sumter. Opponents argue that the flag is a political symbol that represents racial inequality and should be removed after the shooting deaths of nine African American church members in June 2015. Proponents argue that the flag is an important historical symbol that commemorates the state’s role in the Civil War.

Sadly, I feel like it would be hypocritical if it was banned, but if people have a huge problem with it, speak out about it.

No, besides the fact it represents racism, what other country lets someone put up the flag of an enemy Nation
@9SLNFVT9mos9MO
No, the nothing but the american flag should be flow on government property, but indaviduals have the right expression.

There shouldn’t be a federal law. Flying it isn’t very mindful of a states citizens. Yes it’s historical but each state should decide for itself.

no due to symbol of racism, separatism. and treason. only be allowed in historical museum where flag was originally flown
@8W2V6P94yrs4Y
Regardless, this should be decided by the Southern states
@8W24QGB4yrs4Y
It shouldn't be illegal, but people should learn about the symbolization of the flag so that they can determine whether or not it is an appropriate situation

No, We do not idolize England even though that was also a big part of American History. They lost the war, and therefore they are a terrorist group with most American lives claimed.
@8RBQ7TS4yrs4Y
The flag is of history not of the times of today
@8PMN5S74yrs4Y
it should be allowed if someone chooses to have it at their house or something but probably not at a government building

Depends on the flag. The simple red with the x is fine with me. It represents southern heritage, not rascism.

Technically, I don't think that there is any legal reason that it could not be flown but I don't think flying it would be good support of our country. It would be good to have in a historical museum.
@97546SV3yrs3Y
No, it is a symbol of racism, separatism, and treason. But it is a piece of history and can be displayed in certain areas and times.
@93DHDVS3yrs3Y
This is a question left to the states as per Amendment X.
@9LHFD3Y1yr1Y
No. Absolutely not. It's a symbol of treason against the GOVERNMENT, flying it over GOVERNMENT property is dangerously close to rebellion. It should not be allowed to be flown at all nearby a government building. People should be allowed to have them for their homes or businesses (or civil war museums, though it shouldn't be being *flown* over them), but not on government property.
