In 1961, the South Carolina State Government passed a law mandating that the confederate flag be flown on the ground of its state capitol building. The law was passed to commemorate the centennial of the Civil War assault on Fort Sumter. Opponents argue that the flag is a political symbol that represents racial inequality and should be removed after the shooting deaths of nine African American church members in June 2015. Proponents argue that the flag is an important historical symbol that commemorates the state’s role in the Civil War.

Dishonor
The CSA was founded in defense of slavery, committed treason against the union after Lincoln was elected, and took states rights too far.
@SovereignFlamingo2yrs2Y
The Civil War was not solely about slavery but also about economics and states' rights. The Southern states felt their rights were being trampled upon by the federal government, specifically their right to decide on issues such as slavery.
Additionally, labeling the Southern secession as "treason" is a matter of perspective. From the standpoint of the Southern states, they were exercising their right to self-determination, a principle deeply embedded in the foundation of our nation and the Declaration of Independence itself.
As for taking states' rights too far, it is more a question of finding the right balance between federal and state authority. A balance that is still being sought today in many aspects such as education, healthcare, and even marijuana legalization

State institutions should not be allowed to display insignia or flags in a representative fashion that are not the official insignia or flags of the state. Similar to separation of church and state, flags and other symbolisms of ideology should not be endorsed by state institutions.
@B24X3M9American Solidarity5mos5MO
No. Private individuals should be able to display the flag if they please, but I don’t think it should be displayed on government property
@96KVCF33yrs3Y
No, only the state flag, USA flag and/or city flag should be flown. Ie only flags that directly represent all the people that government building is meant to represent. So, no Christian flags, pride flags, blm etc
@9638WSR3yrs3Y
I do not have any information about this.
@94Q4BHQ3yrs3Y
No and any other flag other than the us flag state and territory flags
@943H7WJ3yrs3Y

@93W59X73yrs3Y
No and make it illegal to flags that are not us or state or territory flags
@93KMJVC3yrs3Y
Yes, but only on government property since not everyone would agree. You should be able to do it on your own property if you choose to do so.

No, only at monuments where it was originally flown for historical purposes only.
@8VFPHLVLibertarian4yrs4Y
Yes, I have issues, 1st amendment wise with rewriting history such that you couldn't show a picture or dramatization of a historical event in a federal museum or on a federal historical park.
@8TT3FWW4yrs4Y
On public property, no. Private property, yes.

No, most of the ties having placed a flag publicly could result in conflict depending on the people who see it and some could start more dangerous conflicts than need be
@8V9TCKQ4yrs4Y
No because people only use it to stir up people
@93CS3TH3yrs3Y
No, the only flags that should be flown on government properties are official flags specific to the area
