“If crimes were committed, people should be charged and penalized. This is true for all crimes, whether it be people on Wall Street, people entering the US illegally (which is a crime) or people murdering other people. More importantly, what should be asked is, should politicians be charged with crimes for the housing crisis? Remembering that politicians passed laws requiring Fannie and Freddie to underwrite MORE than 50% of the mortgages to "unqualified, sub-prime, and high-risk" borrowers. That is more criminal than what most banks did, who simply adhered to bad laws.”
