In 2014 the U.S. Senate blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act which would make it illegal for employers to pay unequal wages to men and women who perform the same work. The goals of the act were to make wages more transparent, require employers to prove that wage discrepancies are tied to legitimate business qualifications and not gender and prohibiting companies from taking retaliatory action against employees who raise concerns about gender-based wage discrimination. Opponents argue that studies which show pay gaps don’t take into account women who take jobs that are more family-friendl…

I think that is they do the same job as efficiently as a man or woman they will get paid the same amount.
@9JY94JS1yr1Y
Yes, but it should depend on how much work each is doing. The base pay should be the same, but the benefits, raises, etc. should heavily depend on the amount and quality of work done.
@9FP227L 2yrs2Y
Payment should be based on results of an employee working at a certain position. If a woman gets as much work done as a man then they should be paid the same.
@9FP25TB2yrs2Y
Yes, also factoring in other variables such as education, experience, and tenure
@9FNW77P2yrs2Y
For minimum wage I think bot should be payed equally. But for things like medical careers and jobs you need a diploma or more education in, you should be payed accordingly to your education. there should be no difference other than if the person can not accomplish the same thing as the others. For example in jobs that you need strength and endurance like working in a packing company by the hour. I believe males are stronger and can endure more than most women so men should get paid more in that situation.

Pay is equivalent to the amount and quality of work that someone does, regardless of gender.
@92ZV4P6Republican3yrs3Y
It depends on the ability that said person is able to perform the job.
@92Z5LH2Natural Law3yrs3Y
If they do the something and if they are in the same situation
@92Z36RF3yrs3Y
Yes, but there is many other variables that change it so we need to make it open and available for everyone to see to call out unfair wages.
@92KRGQY3yrs3Y
yes but only if they are putting in the same work and hours but they should not get paid the same just because they are a woman
@8XXKPDM4yrs4Y
Depends on the work ethic.
@8TTT9H34yrs4Y
Effort should be compensated solely based on performance.
@8RPC6JCLibertarian4yrs4Y
Pay should not be based on hourly. We should base it on yearly pay all jobs would pay the same regardless of hours.
@8DGPHZT5yrs5Y
They should get paid for how good they do a job not depending on the gender.
@9375C2N3yrs3Y
yes, they should pay men and women the same hourly wage, but salary can be different due to factors such as hours worked
@92YX7Z93yrs3Y
If the two individuals have the same experience, and skill, provide the same purpose and are equally sufficient, then yes. But many variables play into the wage gap that go much further than simple sexism.
@9K662341yr1Y
Yes, paying men and women equally for doing the same work encourages equity and respect for both sexes.
- Pay differences between genders support systemic discrimination against women and add to economic inequality.
A fundamental tenet of justice and fundamental human rights is equal pay for equal work.
No: - Equal pay laws may put financial strain on companies, particularly small ones, and hinder economic expansion.
- Other than gender discrimination, pay disparities may be justified by experience, education, skills, and performance.
- Government wage-setting interference may violate employers' rights to self-govern and erode the foundations of the free market.
