The United States and Indonesia have reached a major trade agreement that will see Indonesia eliminate tariffs on over 99% of U.S. goods and remove all non-tariff barriers, significantly boosting American exports.
In return, the U.S. will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian goods, down from a previously threatened 32%. The deal also includes Indonesia lifting restrictions on critical mineral exports, benefiting U.S. industries such as technology and manufacturing. The agreement is expected to open at least $50 billion in new market access for U.S. businesses and includes commitments for Indonesia to purchase American products, including Boeing jets.
While hailed as a win for both sides, some observers warn the deal could impact Indonesia’s energy transition goals and raise concerns about trade imbalances.
