The Georgia State Ethics Commission has declined to investigate Lt. Gov. Burt Jones regarding a $10 million loan he made to his own gubernatorial campaign committee.
The complaint, filed by rival Republican candidate and Attorney General Chris Carr, questioned the legality of Jones' self-financing. The commission stated that the complaint did not allege a violation of state law and therefore would not be pursued. Jones' campaign dismissed the complaint as a political tactic.
This decision comes as Jones officially launches his campaign for governor, making the issue a focal point in the early stages of the 2026 race.
