Agence France-Presse (AFP) and its journalists' union have issued urgent warnings that their reporters in Gaza are facing extreme hunger and risk starving to death due to Israel's ongoing blockade and siege.
The agency has called on the Israeli government to allow the evacuation of its freelance journalists, who are among the last international media workers still reporting from inside Gaza. French officials, including the foreign minister, have also demanded that Israel grant foreign press access to Gaza to document the worsening humanitarian crisis. Journalists, along with aid workers and medical staff, are reportedly collapsing from exhaustion and hunger as food and clean water run out.
The situation marks an unprecedented crisis for AFP, which has never before faced the prospect of its staff dying from starvation in its 80-year history.
