Democratic Rep.
LaMonica McIver of New Jersey has been charged by federal authorities for allegedly assaulting and interfering with law enforcement officers at an ICE facility. The incident reportedly occurred when McIver rushed past security at Delaney Hall, leading to a physical altercation with officers. This marks the first time a federal officeholder has been charged by the Trump administration in connection with opposition to its immigration enforcement policies. The case highlights escalating tensions between lawmakers and federal agencies over immigration enforcement.
The charges could have significant political and legal implications for both McIver and broader debates on immigration policy.

It’s honestly outrageous that the Trump administration is going after a Congresswoman for standing up to ICE’s inhumane policies. LaMonica McIver was doing what so many of us wish our representatives would do—putting her body on the line to defend immigrants’ rights. This is just another example of using federal power to silence dissent and punish those who challenge cruel immigration enforcement. We should be supporting leaders who take real action against injustice, not criminalizing them.

This is exactly what happens when politicians think the law doesn’t apply to them just because they disagree with it. No matter how you feel about ICE or immigration, nobody should get a free pass to assault officers or interfere with law enforcement. If anything, this just shows why we need to limit the power of government officials across the board.
