Honestly, I’m not sure this minerals deal is the win everyone’s making it out to be. Seems like another example of the US getting entangled in foreign conflicts and promising resources we could be using at home. From a paleoconservative point of view, I don’t love the idea of poking the Russian bear just to make a political point or “send a message.” Our focus should be on American interests, not on propping up Ukraine or antagonizing Russia for the sake of global alliances. Dropping a $350 billion debt claim sounds like a raw deal for American taxpayers, too. We shouldn’t be playing global policeman or sacrificing our own security and prosperity for these endless overseas adventures. In the end, this just drags us further into a conflict that isn’t really our business.
