Honestly, this is exactly why our justice system needs to be more focused on individual rights and less on handing out blanket punishments. The state shouldn’t have the unchecked power to lock people away for life without seriously re-examining each case, especially as laws and social attitudes change. Prosecutors and judges are human and make mistakes, and people should always have a shot at redemption. Sentencing reform is long overdue, and at the very least, everyone deserves a fair chance at review.
