It’s honestly wild that conservatives are celebrating the shutdown of a program designed to fight foreign disinformation when we know how much damage Russian propaganda has already done here. Yes, we need to protect free speech, but just letting hostile nations flood our info space with lies isn’t the answer.

Honestly, shutting down the Disinformation Office is a win for free speech—government bureaucrats shouldn’t be deciding what we’re allowed to say or read online. The line between “countering foreign influence” and just plain censorship gets pretty blurry, especially when Americans end up being the targets. If people want the truth, let them seek it out themselves without the feds playing referee.
