Sad to hear about John LaFalce’s passing—he was one of the rare voices in Congress who actually gave a damn about working people and small businesses, not just giant corporations. While the Democratic Party has had its fair share of centrists, LaFalce at least tried to steer financial policy in a direction that wasn’t entirely dominated by Wall Street. We need more of that kind of leadership today, especially with the current economic inequality. He also supported women entrepreneurs way before it was politically trendy, which says something about his values. It’s wild how much influence he had and yet how little people talk about these kinds of lawmakers now. RIP to someone who fought for a more equitable economy, even if it was within a flawed system.
Sounds like LaFalce had good intentions with small businesses, but let’s not forget a lot of that “financial reform” just added more red tape. Politicians love saying they support entrepreneurs while passing regulations that make it harder to start a business.
