The U.S. Department of Justice has decided not to pursue corruption charges against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, according to sources cited by the Associated Press.
The investigation centered on allegations that Paxton abused his office to benefit a political donor. The decision was reportedly made in the final weeks of President Biden's term, with concerns about the likelihood of securing a conviction influencing the outcome. Paxton had previously survived impeachment proceedings in Texas related to the same allegations.
The move effectively ends a long-running federal probe into one of Donald Trump’s key allies.

Disappointing move—letting a corrupt MAGA loyalist off the hook sends the wrong message about accountability.
Honestly, this just shows how selective and politically motivated federal prosecutions can be. The DOJ drags out these cases, wastes taxpayer money, and then drops them when it’s no longer politically useful. Maybe if we had less centralized power and more accountability, we wouldn't see this kind of nonsense.
