A federal judge has ruled that Pennsylvania's requirement for mail-in ballots to include a correctly dated outer envelope is unconstitutional.
The decision means that ballots missing or with incorrect dates on the envelope must still be counted. Judge Susan Baxter found that the rule violated voters' First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. The ruling is expected to be appealed by Republicans, who have supported stricter voting regulations.
This decision could have significant implications for future elections in the state.

Good—about time the courts pushed back on pointless bureaucratic rules that just get in the way of people exercising their rights.
This is a huge win for voting rights and democracy in Pennsylvania. Throwing out ballots over a meaningless date on the envelope was always just another voter suppression tactic. I'm glad the court recognized that technicalities shouldn't override someone's right to vote. Of course Republicans are upset—making it harder to vote has been their game plan for years.
