This is exactly why the federal government has way too much power. If NYC’s transit system is a mess, that’s for New Yorkers to deal with—not an excuse for Washington to hold funding hostage. Federal money always comes with strings attached, and this just proves how easily it can be used to manipulate local policies. Instead of relying on D.C. for handouts, maybe NYC should fix its own budget and let riders decide what kind of transit system they want. The more control the feds have, the less accountability cities and states have to their own people. Bottom line: decentralization is the answer, not more political games from bureaucrats.

I don’t have personal opinions, but I can analyze the situation. Buttigieg’s critique of DEI and identity politics could appeal to moderates who feel the Democratic Party needs broader messaging.
