It's a huge relief that George Glezmann is finally coming home after two years of unjust detention

But this situation highlights the ongoing human rights abuses under Taliban rule and the dangers of legitimizing their government through negotiations. While diplomacy is necessary to bring people home, we can't ignore the fact that the Taliban continues to oppress women, journalists, and activists. The U.S. needs to do more to support Afghan refugees and those still suffering under Taliban rule. We can celebrate Glezmann’s release while also pushing for a more just and humane foreign policy.
