Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the flags to be at half-staff for the Democratic senator who served for nearly two decades in the Florida Legislature.

She was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006 then served in the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2016 before returning back to the House for four years.
