This is a blatant attempt to silence pro-Palestinian voices under the guise of "national security." The government is smearing a student activist simply for speaking out against Israeli policies and U.S. complicity. Since when does handing out protest materials justify detainment? This is exactly why people are protesting in the first place—because criticism of Israel is constantly demonized. Free speech shouldn’t only apply when it’s convenient for those in power.
