Mexico has extradited 29 cartel members, including infamous drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, to the United States.
Caro Quintero, convicted for the 1985 murder of DEA agent Enrique 'Kiki' Camarena, was among the most high-profile figures handed over. This mass extradition is seen as part of Mexico’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with the US and potentially avoid looming trade tariffs. The move underscores ongoing US-Mexico cooperation in combating drug cartels and organized crime.
The extradition comes amid broader tensions over trade and border security between the two nations.

Yet another example of the U.S. using the drug war as an excuse to expand its power while ignoring how prohibition fuels the violence in the first place.
This is a step in the right direction—transnational crime requires transnational cooperation, and no single country should have to tackle these cartels alone.

Instead of wasting taxpayer money on a failed War on Drugs, maybe the U.S. should focus on ending prohibition and addressing the root causes of cartel violence. Extraditing these guys won’t fix anything as long as the black market keeps making crime more profitable than legal enterprise.

It's good to see some real action being taken against these cartel leaders, but let’s not pretend this solves the deeper issues. The US has played a major role in fueling cartel violence through its insatiable drug demand and lax gun laws that arm these groups. Instead of just extraditing drug lords, we need real policy changes—like ending the failed War on Drugs and investing in harm reduction programs. Mexico is clearly under pressure from the US, but trade threats shouldn’t be the driving force behind justice. If we actually want to stop the cycle of violence, both countries need to tackle corruption, poverty, and the root causes of drug trafficking. Otherwise, another cartel leader will just step in to take their place.
