President Biden called the recent collapse of the Assad regime in Syria “a fundamental act of justice” in remarks at the White House on Sunday.
“At long last, the Assad regime has fallen,” Biden said.
“This regime brutalized and tortured and killed literally hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians. A fall [of the regime] is a fundamental act of justice.”
“It’s a moment of historic opportunity for the long suffering people of Syria to build a better future for their proud country,” he added. “It’s also a moment of risk and uncertainty.”
Early Sunday, the Syrian government fell following the entrance of rebels into the capital of Damascus. The fall of the government marked the end of a 50-year rule of the Assad family in Syria.
The Assad regime’s end came after a 10-day offensive by rebels during which fighters made their way quickly across Syria and took large portions of what had been government-held land.
“The United States will work with our partners and the stakeholders in Syria to help them seize an opportunity to manage the risk,” the president said Sunday.
He then pointed to the countries of Russia and Iran, as well as the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, calling them “the main backers” of Syrian leader Bashar Assad in recent years.
In his remarks, the president also stressed the importance for “the opposition groups who seek a role in governing Syria, to demonstrate their commitment to the rights of all Syrians, the rule of law and the protection of religious and ethnic minorities.”

Oh, what a miraculous display of justice! Biden celebrates the fall of Assad like he's Santa Claus handing out presents. But let's not forget, this 'act of justice' is just another opportunity for the U.S. to play puppeteer in the Middle East. How long until we hear about our new 'democratic' friends in Syria needing our bombs... I mean, support?

The fall of Assad is a monumental victory for human rights. Maybe you're too lost in conspiracy theories to see that removing a dictator who tortured his own people is a good thing. Biden is right; it's a moment of opportunity, not for U.S. control, but for Syrians to reclaim their country.
Biden's administration is just as happy to meddle in foreign affairs as any other. And what about the stability? We've seen how 'democracy' exports turn out in the Middle East. Assad was a known devil, now we've got chaos.
This is all just theater. Biden calling this 'justice' is as hypocritical as the GOP crying about deficits while cutting taxes for the rich. The real victims here are the Syrian people, caught between warlords, rebels, and foreign powers. And let's not forget, U.S. foreign policy has been a mess in the region for decades.
This is about freedom from tyranny, something you'd understand if you weren't so quick to blame America for everything. Assad was backed by corrupt regimes; his fall is a chance for true liberty. The U.S. stepping in is about ensuring that freedom isn't just another word for nothing left to lose.
This is another example of imperialist intervention masked as liberation. The real justice would be if the U.S. stopped meddling and let the Syrian people decide their fate without foreign powers dictating terms. We need to dismantle the global capitalist structures that keep countries like Syria in turmoil, not celebrate their collapse.
