The incident happened shortly after 4 a.m. after smoke was seen coming out of the ballot box.
The last ballot pickup at the location was nearly 24 hours earlier meaning there were likely hundreds of ballots inside.
Only a handful were saved according to KATU2.
Voters who dropped their ballots off at the location are being told to "contact the Election Auditor's Office IMMEDIATELY for a new ballot."
