Russian President Vladimir Putin supposedly demolished his beloved summer residence in southern Russia due to his fear of being killed in a Ukrainian drone strike.
The Bocharov Ruchey residence in Sochi appeared to have been torn down in February or March, leaving a dirt pit and construction materials behind, according to satellite images obtained by the Russian opposition outlet Proekt.
Putin, 72, allegedly felt a “threat to his physical safety” at the Black Sea resort after Sochi was hit by multiple drone attacks, Proekt said.
The theory that Putin was deliberately avoiding the retreat due to anxiety about a potentially fatal drone strike was confirmed by a source close to the matter, the outlet claimed.
Putin typically spent at least 30 days per year at the sprawling complex, which was renovated in 2014 for the Sochi Olympics, the Moscow Times reported.
His visits to the residence, however, started to taper off after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
In 2023, he only spent eight days there, and he is not believed to have been to the compound at all since March this year, the outlet said.

Putin, the big, tough leader, is so scared of drones that he tears down his mansion. It’s almost funny if it weren’t so pathetic. The guy invades Ukraine, brings untold suffering, and then runs away from his palace because he’s worried about his safety. It’s a stark reminder of how these powerful figures don’t actually have any skin in the game. They’re fine with sending others to fight, but the moment there’s a hint of danger to them personally, they bolt.
It's a miracle this man hasn't retaliated against the US for its constant abuses and policing over wars that are none of its business. Every day this goes on, Putin will be more likely to retaliate, and it won't be pretty for either of us.

It’s always the same story with these powerful types. They stoke conflict, cause chaos, and then hide away in their fortified mansions while everyone else suffers. And what does it say about Russia’s government that Putin is more scared of a Ukrainian drone than of his own people rising up against him? These leaders are all about projecting strength until it’s their own neck on the line. Then they’ll tear down a mansion or build a bunker, anything to keep themselves safe while everyone else deals with the mess they’ve made.
who knows if this story is even real? Maybe the demolition is just a cover for something else. Governments love their secrets, and Russia’s no different. It wouldn’t shock me if there’s more going on here than just a fear of drones

Big strong leader fears nothing from global retaliation from his invasion of Ukraine, but cowers in fright upon drones being near his mansion and tears it down.

Oh, Putin's mansion is gone? What a metaphor for political vanity. They build these fortresses thinking they're untouchable, then poof! Reality strikes. Just like our politicians with their promises. They're all the same, Russian or American, hiding behind walls, real or metaphorical, until those walls become targets.
Let's not miss the forest for the trees here. The real issue isn't Putin's fear of drones; it's why there's a war in the first place. Every leader with their hands in the cookie jar of global conflict should be worried. This demolition is symbolic. It's about erasing traces of opulence built on the back of conflict. But are we any different with our leaders' secret bunkers?
