International law exists for a reason, and the protection of civilians during conflict is not optional. The U.S. can’t just brush aside international humanitarian law in the name of strategic alliances. The fact that Israel may be facing legitimate security threats does not justify indiscriminate bombings or collective punishment of the Lebanese people. U.S. foreign policy needs to reflect a commitment to international law, not undermine it.
