This is exactly the kind of misguided approach that keeps us stuck in a cycle of over-criminalization and government overreach. Instead of focusing on real solutions like rehabilitation or reducing government interference in personal choices, they’re just doubling down on harsher penalties. Throwing more people in prison for nonviolent offenses isn’t going to fix anything and just costs taxpayers more money. Plus, reclassifying misdemeanors as felonies is a surefire way to ruin lives over petty crimes. We should be looking for ways to limit government power, not expand it through more authoritarian laws. This is not the direction we should be heading in.
