Portugal is grappling with severe wildfires across its central and northern regions, prompting the country to seek assistance from the European Union.
The fires have led to the evacuation of several villages, injured 12 firefighters, two seriously, and caused significant transport disruptions. In response to Portugal's request, the EU is sending eight firefighting planes to aid in combating the blazes. Over 800 firefighters are currently battling the fires, with additional resources and water-bombing aircraft being deployed to manage the situation.
