An Army Reserve major, Caz Craffy, has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison after being found guilty of defrauding Gold Star families out of millions of dollars.
Craffy, who also served as a financial counselor, admitted to wire and securities fraud among other charges. He tricked grieving military families into investing nearly $10 million into fraudulent schemes, exploiting their trust and vulnerability.
The case, which was brought to light following a Washington Post investigation, has highlighted the need for greater oversight and protection for Gold Star families.
