An Ohio police officer was charged with murder Tuesday for shooting and killing a pregnant woman during a confrontation in a grocery store parking lot last August.
As Ta’Kiya Young sat in her car, Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb and another officer approached her to accuse her of stealing from the store. In an interaction captured on body-camera footage, the officers ordered Young to exit her vehicle as she denied shoplifting. The car then began to move forward, and Grubb fired a shot that struck Young through her windshield, killing her and her unborn child.
Grubb faces two counts of murder and felonious assault each for the deaths of Young, 21, and her fetus, along with two counts of involuntary manslaughter related to the death of the fetus. Felonious assault is sometimes called “felony murder.”
On Aug. 24, an employee of a Kroger grocery store in Westerville, Ohio, told Grubb and the other officer, who has not been identified, that Young had stolen bottles of alcohol and then gotten into a car.
Body-camera footage shows the other officer repeatedly asking Young to exit the vehicle as Grubb moves to stand in front of it. Young can be heard saying no and denying that she stole anything.
Then Young turned the car’s steering wheel and the vehicle moved forward, the video shows. Grubb, who was standing in front of the car with his gun drawn, fired a shot into the windshield, striking Young.

“These decisions are made under extreme pressure and often in life-threatening situations, with the primary goal of safeguarding the general public’s and their own lives,”
How about you start that process by not standing in front of the car with gun drawn? The only way you can get run over is if you purposely put yourself in danger.
What logical person would think they can prevent a car from driving off by standing in front of it? These cops exercise zero judgment and should not be allowed to carry weapons if they lack basic common sense.
They had the details of the car, step out of the way, let her drive off if that’s what she was going to do and arrest her safely at home later. The American police force constantly prove the very definition of insanity and seems incapable of learning not every situation requires lethal force.
Amen! It's ridiculous that that even has to be pointed out, even to cop groupies.
Did the brave officers return the alcohol to its proper owner? Capitalism must be protected at all costs!

Right??? Why stand in front of a vehicle at all?!? Maybe they could’ve boxed her car in with their vehicles if they thought she was a “flight risk”. And (allegedly) over a couple of bottles of booze?!? Ridiculous!!!
Putting it in gear and pressing the gas in NOT "Doing everything she could to avoid hitting the officer".
He knows in the training he has the "authority" to shoot. Should he have fired and was his life actually in danger? No. both people **** ed up.
How are these people even trying to justify her actions?
Call me old fashioned but if 2 cops with weapons drawn tell me to get out of the car, I’m getting out of the car. Then again since I do not break the law this has never happened to me. Funny how that works..
She knew what she was doing and gambled her life calling the cops bluff.

He shot her because she tried to run him over.
Wow, a woman shot to death (possibly) over a couple of bottles of alcohol. Unbelievable. Even if she drove off, they can get the car registration no., track the owner and go to the house and follow up. What is it with cops in the US?
