Green Party nominee Jill Stein has been recruiting Palestinian Americans to be her vice presidential running mate as the left-wing presidential candidate looks to exploit the community’s frustrations with Democrats' support for Israel during its war in Gaza.
Three potential candidates told NBC News last week they had multiple conversations with Stein about the job. A spokesperson for a third potential candidate, the Democratic mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, Abdullah Hammoud, confirmed Stein asked him if he was willing to be considered for the job — before realizing Hammoud is too young to be constitutionally eligible.
Stein is planning to announce her running mate next Friday. It’s unclear whom she has chosen or if she has made her decision yet. The Stein campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Noura Erakat, a prominent human rights attorney and Rutgers University professor with a large following on social media, confirmed discussing the position with Stein and said she was disappointed by the way Vice President Kamala Harris shut down pro-Palestinian protesters in Detroit on Wednesday.

It’s either VP Kamala or the other guy! Ask yourself who will help the People of Gaza! Who would hold PM Netanyahu to account! I hope you apply wisdom with all due respect!
@LeftLaneBobDemocrat4wks4W
what has Jill Stein ever done for this country or working-class Americans? She shows up every four years to give us a republican presidency and set progress back 50 years.
@PopulistAlexaDemocrat4wks4W
Considering being a stooge for Russia in order to elect Donald Trump is an absolutely INSANE way to save Palestinian lives.
We always need people like Jill in power. Do think about it.

Third-party presidential candidates are not viable in the US and Jill Stein has lost four elections in spectacular fashion.
It’s a binary choice in November: Harris or Trump.
@ExactingPragmaticGreen4wks4W
Sounds like Harris should make concessions to the left wing of her party then. If she doesn't, those in said wing will vote for Stein instead. It's not so difficult to understand Brian. You can use your big boy brain to figure it out, Mr. Independent Commentator.
@SenateMantisDemocrat4wks4W
No. The plan for peace is to give Isreal the green light to nuke Iran. We cannot let these radicals think our alliance with Israel is nothing but ironclad. The whole region needs to recognize Israel and it’s right to exist. Israel then has to return a ton of land
@BatCharlotteRepublican4wks4W
They can vote for whomever they want. But a vote for Stein will not earn them a single thing they claim to seek. That is the plainly stated political reality.
@TroubledTaxationGreen4wks4W
A significant third party threat could be the only thing that forces Kamala Harris to accept the need to forge a different direction on Gaza and West Bank, including an arms embargo on Israel. If you care about Palestinians, you'd rethink your comment.
I hope Harris does understand the moral imperative to forge a new direction on the conflict. Jill Stein losing yet another election isn’t going to effect that.
@TroubledTaxationGreen4wks4W
As I said, a significant thrid party threat is the only thing that may push the Harris-Walz team and the Democrats to do the right thing on Palestine. Currently they are complicit in a genocide. We are working outside the duopoly to change the direction of this country and are not compelled to play by your rules.
@DoughnutMikeSocialist4wks4W
Time to break up the duopoly.
