Fierce fighting raged inside Russia on Thursday after Ukrainian armored columns reportedly advanced as far as six miles into Russian territory and captured several small settlements.
The incursion, which was filmed on videos posted online and reported by Russian officials and military analysts, prompted the local governor to declare a state of emergency.
On Wednesday President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia convened with top military and security officials to strategize about the attack.
The surprising assault appears to represent an effort by Ukraine to turn the tables on Moscow by pushing into its territory. In May, Russia caught Ukraine off guard when it sent troops across the border in the area north of Kharkiv, where it still has a narrow foothold.
Ukraine has remained mostly silent about the attack, which began on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian military has not acknowledged its troops are in Russia.

Russia is complaining about troops entering their borders? That's rich.
And didn't russia claim that they weren't actually invading Ukraine since Ukraine was really part of russia?? Well, it works both ways.
It's a war! Russia's invasion of Ukraine was a large-scale provocation. Maybe Putin has forgotten this point. I guess Russia always ran the risk of Ukraine firing back at them. This should not be a big surprise.

The only path to victory for Ukraine is to make Russian citizens feel what their citizens have for two years. There are only two ways, get the people to revolt or Vlad meets his demise and the next leader stops.

If you were the leader of a country involved in a similar situation, would you prioritize peace talks or military action, and why?
@9RYYDJ42yrs2Y
I believe if that a peace talk is better then military action.
The wagner mercenaries had a clear road to Moscow before they just gave up and accepted their execution ("plane crash" 🙄).
Russia has all of its forces in or near Ukraine currently, and i strongly doubt they have done anything to build defenses along the paths to Moscow since the mercenary incursion. If Ukraine gets rolling towards Moscow like they did, they're not going to also just stop.
Wouldn't it be something if Ukraine took Moscow?
Slava.
