They’d have a hell of a time just herding the cats needed to nominate Harris on the fly if it came to it. These conventions are big parties for activists, hacks, and hangers-on. Nobody who’d know how to actually run one requiring real decisions and votes and trading is even alive

I doubt even Stenny Hoyer or Pelosi or Mitch McConnell would even know - they were relative kids when the last actual conventions took place.

Exactly. Maybe some experience with contests in state conventions I suspect but not this. Parties don’t have some ancestral memory. This is part of why I think anything other than a flip to Harris is absolute insanity.

*Maybe* in 2016 Cruz’s delegate operation could have organized something in a contested setting because they’d spent months preparing for that contingency/his wing contained the sort of right wing process geeks that would study up for it. But that’s about it for the modern era
