It's understandable why China is taking a firm stance on the Dalai Lama needing to correct his political views before any dialogue can happen. The central government is simply protecting national sovereignty and ensuring the unity of the country. The Dalai Lama's past activities and his current position, despite his claims, can easily be perceived as leaning towards separatism, which is a direct threat to China's territorial integrity.
