The Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander DeCroo, announced his resignation after the defeat of his party, the Flemish Liberals and Democrats (Open Vld), in the European elections.
"Tomorrow I will resign as prime minister", announced De Croo.
With almost 90 percent of votes counted, Open Vld is currently at 5,9 percent of the vote in the federal election. “But the Liberals are strong, we will return,” the prime minister added.
In Belgium it is common for the prime minister to resign after the elections, to make it easier for the king to convene consultations to form a new government.
The prime minister should however retain his interim position.

We’ve had enough. The Islamisation of the UK and Europe is an existential threat. We must end this insidious scourge now and vote out the left. Time to take back our culture, our way of life
This is no breaking news, it is the constitutional procedure!
Allready in may, prime minister De Croo offered the resignation of his government to the king. The government (and thus its prime minister) stays 'demissionary' until a new, yet to form, government takes over.
Interesting developments in Europe. First UK's snap election, then France and Belgium.
How is this news? He has been a resigning prime minister since may 23, when Parliament was disolved. He'll stay on until there is a new goverment, which will likely take months
