Do you think personal loyalty or political ideology should be more important in politics, especially when defending someone facing legal issues?

The only personal loyalty or political ideology that we should have is defending democracy, the rule of law and the constitution. There should be an independent bi-partisan agency tasked with the responsibility of fact-checking all utterances of public representatives and influencers. If utterances are found to be based on lies or warped truth (such as 'alternative facts'), then the agency should be tasked with highlighting the lies and misinformation and all broadcasters legally bound to report the agencies findings.
