Police said one person died and 22 people suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting Wednesday afternoon just after the Chiefs parade and rally ended at Union Station.
Children’s Mercy Hospital confirmed it was treating 12 patients, 11 of whom were children. The hospital stated that nine of those patients have gunshot wounds.
University Health Truman Medical Center officials said it was treating eight gunshot victims, two of whom are in critical condition. Four other people were treated for non-gunshot injuries.
The Kansas City Police Department stated that three armed people were taken into custody for more investigation.
“I’m angry at what happened today. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment,” police chief Stacey Graves said.
St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City received one gunshot patient in critical condition and three walk-in patients with injuries that were not life-threatening, spokesperson Laurel Gifford said.
The Kansas City Police Department stated officials are working to set up a hotline for tips specifically for information related to the shooting.
The scene was declared clear and safe, as of 5:30 p.m.

What’s your suggestion? Do away with the second amendment? Honest question. Dozens of laws were violated by the shooters. I’d suggest putting violent criminals behind bars & keeping them there. I’d wager a lot of money that the shooters in Kansas City had long rap sheets.

Other countries have criminals with long rap sheets, mental health issues, poverty, whatever. None of them have the issues we have with guns. Just say you’re cool with a lot more Americans being dead so you can have guns, instead of this horse **** where you act like there’s nothing that can be done or this is just a fact of life.
