Israeli military and intelligence officials have concluded that a significant number of weapons used by Hamas in the Oct. 7 attacks and in the war in Gaza came from an unlikely source: the Israeli military itself.
Hamas has been able to build many of its rockets and anti-tank weaponry out of the thousands of munitions that failed to detonate when Israel lobbed them into Gaza.
Intelligence gathered during months of fighting revealed that, just as the Israeli authorities misjudged Hamas’s intentions before Oct. 7, they also underestimated its ability to obtain arms.
What is clear now is that the very weapons that Israeli forces have used to enforce a blockade of Gaza over the past 17 years are now being used against them. Israeli and American military explosives have enabled Hamas to shower Israel with rockets and, for the first time, invade Israeli towns from Gaza.

So let me get this straight:
The Israelis apparently had ample intelligence warning of an impending Hamas attack a FULL YEAR prior to October 7 … and yet Netanyahu and his right wing cabinet chose to ignore those threats. Now according to this article, many of the weapons used in the attacks were from Israel themselves?
I’m sorry, I just don’t understand why Bibi Netanyahu continues to get a pass from Israel’s citizens to remain in power? He is an abject security failure and is steering his country towards less security and world isolation.
Every country's voters choose candidates based on their priorities, and how a country manages its weapons is rarely, if ever, a top priority. How many Biden supporters won't vote for him again because of the massive amount of weapons and military hardware the U.S. left behind in Afghanistan? That's just not how voters think.

Netanyahu has long told Israelis that they can eat their cake and have it too. The IDF, tall walls, and Iron Dome would allow Israel to control the Palestinians, so that West Bank settlers could continue to take more land, Palestinian houses in East Jerusalem could be taken over, and Gaza could be blockaded. Bibi said that Israelis could ignore the Palestinians, because the Palestinians couldn't do anything to change that status quo. He promised "calm".
Israelis will have to decide whether they want a just peace that can only come from two states. So far they have voted for… Read more

Arming Hamas could have been avoided.
Israel decided to weaken the PLO to undercut any movement towards a settlement that would include an independent state. Israel provided Hamas free passage as well as allowed money to maintain it.
There was one, and only one, election held that placed Gaza under Hamas control. Hamas did not allow any further elections. To blame all Palestinians and destroy what little they have is collective punishment. Geneva Conventions view this as illegal.
Israel created Hamas and, apparently, arms them as well.

Reminds me of when US forces found US weapons among ISIS caches. The proliferation of arms does not make the world a safer place.
