In 2022 September 2022 the U.S. Transportation Department approved electric vehicle charging station plans for all 50 states, Washington and Puerto Rico covering about 75,000 miles of highways. The November 2021 $1 trillion infrastructure bill provides $5 billion to help states install EV chargers along interstate highways over five years. Federal funds will cover 80% of EV charging costs, with private or state funds making up the balance. Proponents argue that electric vehicles reduce the use of fossil fuels, and the national network of charging stations will help drivers overcome “r…

Yes, but we should also focus on improving public transportation
@9BWJ8LJ2yrs2Y
No, and ban electric vehicles
@99BX3H5Constitution2yrs2Y
Does the government build gas stations? It should be privately built but prices for use should be monitored to ensure it isn’t monopolized
@B5CSZVR4 days4D
Yes, but encourage use of alternative energy sources and invest heavily in public transportation and high speed rail
@B5539MX2wks2W
Yes, but "mass charging stations" need strict oversight as the e-vehicle fires are almost uncontrollable and could create mass environmental damage
@B54Q5HD 2wks2W
No, this is a personal business thing, the government shouldn't do it, but they should definitely assist, because it needs to happen
@9ZWQVPX5mos5MO
No, Electrical is not the best form of replacing fossil fuels for cars and long range travel. Battery waste is difficult to recycle.
Yes, but only if they use renewable energy sources (assuming these charging stations become more practical).
@9WFC6RJ7mos7MO
I mean, could they build their own place? Like a small system with 5-10 chargers. Depending on the area.
@9VNT4XB7mos7MO
Where is the evidence that widespread usage of electric vehicles helps combat climate change and/or helps the environment in any way? Especially with all the lithium mining that goes into the creation of these vehicles?
@9TZTN6LProgressive8mos8MO
Yes, but they should use renewable energy resources, and we should focus more on public transportation
@9T5XZ9V8mos8MO
Yes, but by providing subsidies to private companies and requiring them to only use renewable energy sources for charging
@9RVZ2YB9mos9MO
No as scientifically thr mining of the resources to make these stations causes more emissions than cars
@9PXQK3811mos11MO
This is already occurring through state and national funding as well as through the Volkswagen Electrify America program. This question is irrelevant.
@9PNYSLD11mos11MO
Allow the company that makes electric cars to install them and make it so they can make a profit from it like gas stations.
@9MM8JHR12mos12MO
I agree that the gov't should build a network of charging stations like this, and I also agree that they should be powered using renewable sources of energy. But, at least in the short term, it may not be viable to power them purely on these forms of energy. The renewable aspect should be added in at a reasonable pace
@9MJZHZ412mos12MO
Building a network of charging stations isn't a bad idea but hybrid technology is the better route to go with as opposed to all electric.
@9LQ8NCQ1yr1Y
Improve the electric grid first and make it so the powerplants supplying the electricity don't use fossil fuels otherwise electric cars are useless
@9L7NHMP1yr1Y
No, The private sector not the government should build a network of electric vehicle charging stations
@9L7N2XG1yr1Y
No electric cars are worst and do harm for the environment as the lithium battery is not biodegradable in the soil.
@9L3X38T1yr1Y
No I am skeptical of electric vehicles working since they require lithium’s batteries which is more harmful to the environment than petroleum gas cars
@9J2CSRQ1yr1Y
probably not, electric vehicles aren't really the greatest. after they're unusable (and as of rn) there isn't really a use for the lithium batteries. so they're probably just gonna rot for a while.
@9HRHKVH1yr1Y
Unfortunately, the current electrical infrastructure is incapable of meeting the demands of increased EV usage. The infrastructure needs to be upgraded, including the use of nuclear energy.
@9HJZW7H 1yr1Y
No, the production of electric vehicles pollute more than gas vehicles, we should be focusing on improving public transportation instead
Yes, but we should also be prioritizing building public transportation and other alternatives to driving as well.
@9GQ5MFT2yrs2Y
Gov't and private companies can both play a role in building a network of electric vehicle charging stations. A collaborative effort between both would be the most effect approach.
@Yaunti2 2yrs2Y
Yes, and nationalize the energy sector
@Yaunti2 2yrs2Y
Yes, but after we nationalize the energy sector
@9FKYFZ2Republican 2yrs2Y
No, electric vehicles are harmful to the environment.
@9DHJ6332yrs2Y
Not enough knowledge on the subject matter to give an informed response
@9DD2FC22yrs2Y
No electric cars are bad for the environment
@8WK8D57Constitution 2yrs2Y
No, the power grid must be upgraded first. Otherwise there is no benefit
Yes, abolish fossil fuels and nationalize the energy sector
Yes, but invest more in public transportation
@98PKJ5L2yrs2Y
Yes, but they should be sold to private companies once electric vehicles become more practical.
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
Why would that be better..?
@99ZQGMK2yrs2Y
@98W7CKQ2yrs2Y
No. This is for the private sector
@98QFR9B2yrs2Y
No, let the free market choose instead
@9D274J82yrs2Y
Yes, but only if they use renewable sources, and with a focus on public transportation. I worry that a public EV market would lead to unsustainable mining and disposal practices.
@9CL3W842yrs2Y
Private companies should compete in the free market to develop electric car charging stations
@9CL3MKD2yrs2Y
No, private businesses should compete through the free market in order to build charging stations
@9CFCJ5J2yrs2Y
No, Vehicle companies should be in charge of that.
Yes, but a focus on improving public transportation is preferable
@9BHRNVS2yrs2Y
Private companies should do this.
@99GTYV72yrs2Y
Yes while encouraging private stations to be built as well.
@jjkaiser166Independent2yrs2Y
No, but there should be tax incentives for both the individual and business private sectors to install the charging stations.
Should be done by states
@99737ZM2yrs2Y
Maybe not the government or provide incentives
@98XNN2X2yrs2Y
@98X3J6C2yrs2Y
No, focus on public transportation
@98X2HDR2yrs2Y
Depends on how much electricity vehicles are used in the area/ state
@89LSS7XIndependent2yrs2Y
Yes, as electric vehicles are becoming more prevalent, electric charging stations should be as well
@98PQZW22yrs2Y
Electric car manufacturers should build EV charging stations.
@9HD5JP61yr1Y
No, the focus should be on regulating companies' emissions while incentivizing them to build this network
